Thank you! I am very proud! Too proud even, haha.
They have come along way, especially Benji, he was rescued
and had many behavioral issues. Both the boys were always
good dogs in my opinion, just a little misunderstood, but now
they are great dogs. I warn people about this bad boy breed,
because I care and do not want any more Basenjis abandoned
because their owners fail to provide what they need. But for
an experienced, active, loving, kind and extremely patient
owner this breed is a pleasure! They are very unique, very
different from other breeds. What I like about them the most
is that unlike most dogs their love is not served on a silver
platter. You must really work and earn it. Once they love you,
you will have THE most loyal, devoted, loving companion.
I can talk all day long about them, but I'll stop boring you for now.

Haha me too I love when they stretch, I always feel like I must go pet and
cuddle them right at that moment, they are too cute. Chanel is so funny,
when she wakes up in the morning she does this slow motion stretch with her
eyes closed but her tongue out, lol, every morning the same thing! Too
hilarious to witness.

I wish more people realized how
valuable exercise and stimulation are to a dog, of any breed. No matter the
breed, size, temper, you provide a dog with good nutrition, sufficient mental
and physical stimulation and you will have THE perfect dog imo. Funny that
we are talking about this, I was just literally crying seeing all the dogs up on
Kijiji being given away for the most ridiculous reasons, one of which is the dog
has too much energy and they don't have time to exercise it, some offer to
exchange it for a smaller breed, it saddens me to see that people actually
think there are dogs out their who don't need exercise. For crying out loud I
used to have a Pug that was pure muscle, beautiful, sturdy, active little guy.
No problems running, rollerblading, etc. We just took breaks, drank water,
relaxed and kept going. It seems more and more the Chis are suffering from
people's ignorance now a days. They think they get a toy or accessory and
realize that this breed has needs just like any other dog. Our little Chanel is so
full of spunk and energy. Sure she could lie on the couch all day, but why
would I let her? How is that a life?

I totally agree with you - I get so cross when I meet people who say " oh I want a chi as you don't need to walk them" I ALWAYS tell them the truth ALL dogs need to be exercised - not only do there need it physically but for their mental health too - they need to sniff, see different things etc. I agree a lot of behavioural problems in dogs are often due to lack of exercise - my boy dogs never pee in the house and im sure this is because they get plenty of new places to pee on walks every day - my chi's get an hour of lead in the park a day ( other than Kirby who is a poorly lad so he gets about 20 mins a day to wander/ sniff and pee - any more and he is poorly - but I often take him to work with me where he can watch & meet customers )My pugs get an hour with the chi's in the park and an hour on their own where we power walk/chase balls etc

Ls you would be horrified at the people who ask ' why aren't your pugs fat '
I have even had someone tell me they would look much better fat

Absolutely!
I can tell just from the photos you post of your pack that they are well
cared for in every way. As for the fat Pug thing, I really don't understand
that. It's very sad that some people almost expect this from a breed. It
is a similar situation with Beagles and Labs here. They are renowned for
being gourmand, so folks use that as an excuse for their dogs' weight. You
should see the happy, positive speech I give to the owner when I actually
come across a very "rare" fit Pug, Beagle, Lab or Boston. It is just such a rare
sight unfortunately. It's just sad, no dog wants to be fat, no dog wants to
be locked in the house all day. We pet sit a Sheltie and Pug at times, from the
same owner, they come together. They are both extremely overweight, to
the point where they are barely moving. The owner did not believe me at first
when I told him his dogs were having a really nice time outside. He laughed
at me and said that at home they never leave the couch, they are just lazy
by nature. Funny they are completely different at my place they play, and
enjoy walking. They can't keep up with my pack , but that's normal they
are out of shape. But they still love it. It is not easy for us people to always
be at our ideal, healthy weight, because so many psychological factors are
involved. But when it comes to dogs, there is no excuse, we are in charge of
their food, if they are fat, we are to blame. Age slows old dogs down sure,
reduce the amount of food. Neutering or spaying makes them put on weight
due to the decrease in roaming and other related activities, so feed less.
Anyways, I'm getting carrier away! lol sorry!
