Chlorine does evaporate fairly soon from tap water; however, many municipalities now use
Chloramine which does not. I brought home a baby Betta in December and he/she is doing well.
I do use a water treatment and let the water sit an hour or so first. Also, Betta's don't do
as well with a bubbler (aeration). They like calm water and a place to rest on a rock or leaf

"Because the betta fish breathes at the surface of the water, the water does not need to be aerated either. In fact, aeration and circulation may create too much flow for your betta, who are not accustomed to having to swim very hard." Betta Fish Care - How to Care for your Beta Fish

i was going to get a larger tank like 5 gallons but the only reason why my mom let me have the tank i have is because it's different than the huge tanks we have downstairs. I didn't want to put a huge aquarium in my room since I have no where to put it. The 3 gallon round tank is on my desk. It does need cleaning which I'll probably do tomorrow morning early so that it has time to sit.

I am in the process of cleaning my room. lol. it's gonna take about 1-2 weeks to fully clean it. lol.

I used to have a 35 gallon tank. I had it for a few years it was doing well. My brother used to have 90 gallon tanks two fresh water and one salt water so he helped me out with the basic set-up and maintainance. Until my lovely son decided to put a bar of soap in the tank. Killed everything except the plecostomus. So I cleaned everything and got it all set up and new bunch of fish and he decided to put laundry detergent in the tank this time. (He was 2 years old, very bright and said he was helping me clean the tanks. He had watched me clean them and thought he'd help) That even killed the plecostomus so I decided to set aside having fish and never got back into it.
