Default ~Let's Thank Our Dogs~

There are a lot of bad things in this world, a lot of sad things, a lot of tough
things... we hurt, we cry, we fall, at times things spiral out of control, at
times we lose hope, in ourselves, in others, in humanity... we have moments
of weakness, moments of fear... but no matter how unfortunate our
circumstances are, no matter if we have almost nothing in this world, our
dogs are always happy to be around us, always happy to see us, always
loyal, always true. They are our best friends, our companions, our family.
They give us unconditional love, without asking for much in return. No matter
how unattractive we may seem to the world, no matter how ill we may look,
no matter how poor we might be, they don't care, to them we are perfect, to
them we are extraordinary. They follow our foot steps, wiggling tails, they are
thankful for every meal, every cuddle time, every walk... they thrive just
being next to us, being part of our lives. They don't complain, they listen, and
they love unconditionally without ever judging us. They are our dogs, let's
remember that even when no one is there, they are. There is no greater love
than a dog loving his owner, it is the most selfless, the most pure. They
watch over us, they protect us. They feel when we are upset or hurt, and no
matter what they are there by our side, loyal friends. Last night my hubby
gave me an ultimate scare, when he collapsed to the ground. He got a pain
on the side of his head, so strong that he could not speak, or yell for help.
Our boy Rocky came to get me and brought me to him. We had a very long
night, and now hubby's at the emergency. Rocky and Chanel would not leave
hubby's side until it was time to go to emergency. Right now as I wait for him
to come home, Rocky and Chanel are lying by the door, waiting for him, we
are not sure when he'll be back, we've been waiting all day, Benji and Bella
are keeping me company in bed, because I myself am too ill to move. It is like
the 4 of them split into groups..."you wait for papa, while we take care of
mama". They are spectacular, and I'm so thankful to have them...I don't have
much, but I feel so blessed, so rich, for having them be a part of my life.
Some people leave when they encounter something scary, such as a friend
becoming ill, sometimes family members die, sometimes they also leave, or run
away...some families are very small, at times as small as two people,
sometimes just one person is his own family... but no matter what, when you
have dogs, you have a family. You have someone who cares, someone who
loves you, someone who looks after you, no matter how small they might be,
their hearts are big, their hearts are completely yours...unconditionally. Lets
always be good to our dogs, lets give them everything they need to thrive,
lets research their nutrition and always try to improve it, lets exercise them,
lets give them the medical care they require, no matter how broke we are at
the moment, lets work together on finding a way to communicate, through
positive training, lets not give up on our dogs if our life situation changes, lets
return the favor and be loyal to them. After all, they are family.

Please hug your dogs for me, tell them they are good boys and girls. I know
many people on here have a difficult time right now, with one thing or
another, and I know that our dogs make a huge difference in our lives, so
lets be thankful for having such good family, such great friends.

Hubby should be ok, they think it has to do with his nerve, on the side of his
face/jaw, as soon as I know everything I will let you guys know.

You know, I could not do anything but lay in bed, worry and cry today,
because hubby and I have no one to turn to, and god forbid something
serious happens to him...I can't take care of him because I'm in so much pain
that I can barely care for myself the last few months. And then I snapped out
of it and realized what had happened last night...Rocky saved hubby. He
alerted me when something went wrong. He was never trained to do that,
he's actually our "naughty child", he is the main reason we started those 4
daily walks 4 years ago, 6-7 hours of on leash walking per day is what he
NEEDS to be happy, so we gave it to him, even when I was in the wheelchair,
we walked him 4 times per day, for a total of 6-7 hours per day, the last while
that I've been worse and unable to leave the bed hubby has been doing all
the walks on his own, and I miss it, because no matter how much it hurt me
to walk, no matter how "handicapped" I looked walking slowly, in pain, as if I
just got off a horse that I was riding bare back for a year straight...no matter
what, I loved seeing how happy my dogs were on their walks, they thrived.
Hubby and I both changed jobs for our dogs, so we could be closer to home,
so we could spend more time with them. We got the apartment with them in
mind, we bought all of our furniture with them in mind, every inch of this place
is designed for their well being, comfort and safety. We gave them
everything, and never expected for them to take care of us...for them to
protect us, to help us. I still don't know what exactly is wrong with hubby,
and I don't want to alarm you, I'm sure he'll be ok. But last night it did not
feel like that, I thought I was going to lose him. He never gets sick, I'm the ill
one, he is made of stone, he is a rock, and seeing him collapse yesterday...my
heart stops just remembering. All I can say is thank god Rocky was there to
let me know something is very wrong. I never expected this from him, all I did
is love him, all hubby did is love him, and he potentially saved him. Dogs are
very special, let's not forget that.

I'll keep you guys posted. Please don't worry, that's my job. He's strong, I
know whatever has caused this, he'll be ok. We'll take care of it. I just felt
a strong urge to come and share what Rocky did last night, so you could all
give an extra kiss to your best buds, they really do love us, so so much.

Reading this, I started crying, and I called Sophie over for some extra cuddles. Thank you for posting this-every bit of it is so true.

Good luck with your hubby, I really hope everything works out for you. And give Rocky the hero a hug for me

Sending good and positive thoughts your way, LS. Make sure that they do lots of testing to rule anything out. A friend of ours had severe head pain and the hospital didn't do full testing and unfortunately missed something very big, which I won't get into. Sometimes you have to be pushy! I hope that it turns out to be something temporary and he returns home soon. Rocky is such a little hero! You're so lucky to have him.

Everything you've said is totally true. Odie's life revolves around my husband and I, and ours revolve around her, which is what she deserves. I am unable to go out of the house today because of on and off pain which I'm having a hard time controlling and Odie has decided to employ herself as my little hot water bottle for the day and it's helping. We couldn't ask for a more loyal friend.

Thank you both. Hubby will be ok, but I have to go take care of him now, he's home.

I hope your hubby will be OK, did they say what happened?
Our pets have an amazing ability to know when we need them, when I am hurting, Chica gwill not leave my side I like to think that she is taking care of me. I Thank both my pups every day for being there, if I did not have them in my life I think I would have gone crazy by now.

Edit to correct spelling. ; )

Give Rocky a hug just for me. What an amazing dog. I So glad that your Robbie is back home. The Beatles said it best.. "All you need is love." =) Fortunately that's what our 4-legged ones specialize in. Keep us updated please! Chin up!! =D

LS: Hang in there. Sometimes in life, there is role reversal, where the ill one must suddenly become the strong one for a while. That extra emotional/spiritual lift from the love emanating from your dogs will help you both get through this crisis.
