I am very excited, we got a new Betta today! I already have a 125 gallon tank with lots of fish/crabs/etc but then for Christmas I got my husband a 7.9 gallon desktop aquarium that he now has fully planted with lots of aquatic plants (he loves plants, we special ordered them online and he is loving taking care of them). We decided to just keep 1 betta in the tank because being a carnivore he will not eat the plants :P Plus they require the same water parameters as the tropical plants, they like hanging out in the plants and they look really pretty against all the green in the tank.

I don't have any pictures because he is still acclimating and I am keeping the room dark for that. I tested the water out of the jar from the pet store and it is like 7.8 PH so I am going to take it really slow. Probably because our local tap water is almost 8 but still you think they could treat that! The tank is around 6.8 so that is a big change for the little guy. I feel so bad about how bettas are kept in pet stores.

I can't wait to share pictures, he is really pretty. I should have taken pictures of the planted tank without the fish sometime in the last two weeks but I never did... The acclimation process is always so nerve wracking and long so I thought I would share my excitement/boredom with you guys. Any other betta owners out there?

I have a Betta & so does Sherri! (Chihuahuasloveme)

They are beautiful! and I fully agree about pet store situations they are kept in.
Our Betta is housed in a 30 gallon Freshwater tank with two Angel fish & one fresh water crab & plenty of plants.

They all get along wonderfully, Some Bettas depending on personality can live with other freshwater fish, we had him alone before but decided to try him out in the community tank and he's thrived!

Cool kitty! Does he really do ok with angel fish??? That is cool, most of what I read said other fish with big fins will get attacked by them, you must have a very well mannered fish. Our community tank is brackish so he will never be living in there Even if the hard water and salt didn't do him in the fiddlers would get him for sure.

He is in the tank now and doing good. We have some floating plants (just a few, there is plenty of surface for him to get to) and he seems to like hanging out in them already. Ill take a pic and update everyone in the morning. He also needs a name, I have no idea on that one so help is appreciated. He is a veiltail and is deep blue. Nothing fancy but he does look pretty. I can't wait to see him in the light in the morning. I'm keeping it off for the night now to help with acclimation stress.

I have two black Angels, one is quite large and one is smaller & then the Betta, the Betta is the smallest.
He does not seem interested at all in the Angels, The largest Angel is the fish in charge! he bosses everyone around including the Betta! it's interesting to watch.

Some Bettas are milder natured than others, and you just don't know until you try it out.. it's been 6 mos or so and going well.

He is a really cool little fish. Also I fed him this morning- I soaked his pellets for 5 minutes like everyone recommended then gave them to him one at a time and it almost seemed like he was "chewing". He went like nom, nom, nom then swallowed. It was so cute! And Dr Google tells me it is normal. I could just watch this guy for hours he is so cool!
