Im not a fan of RC because of all the fillers. You can buy a superior kibble for less money than RC too! Whole Dog journal is a good source for food ratings and there was a sticky somewhere on this forum too.
Try virgin unrefined coconut oil for your pups skin. They only need a very small amount daily and they love it!
Cant wait to see pics of your pup!

Oh he is awesome! Looks like he is full of personality too!
Both of my pups eat Wellness CORE kibble. I add pumpkin in the am and Missing Link and oil (fish/coconut rotating) in pm.

Great....Rolo has been on RC since I got him, this is what the breeder recommended, he also has a little wet food. Do I change him?

Thank you for your lovely comments!

Hi rolosmummy, RC was the same food that my breeder recommended and as she was a fantastic breeder I was a little unnerved by the pet shop owner basically telling me that I'm feeding Benny rubbish and reluctant to change! Hence me joining this forum!!
The issue for me is his scratching and this seems to have been a common problem with the RC from comments above!

Also with RC if Benny was in the wild, im sure he probably wouldn't be choosing maize as his first choice of food!

Going on the advice I've been given here I'm going to try Eden and see how it goes! Seems to be highly regarded by those using it currently! I've ordered a sample for 5 (400g). The ingredients do look a lot more healthy and natural for our dogs!

I'm a new chihuahua owner so I would definitely ready comments above and seek their advice as I'm still learning from everyone else!

X

Many vets recommend RC, including my own, doesn't mean it is the best though. Unfortunately most vets are not very clued up about nutrition, and get kickbacks from the big dog food companies.
It is mostly grain, and that is just cheap filler, dogs do not need carbohydrates, their digestive system is designed to get energy from proteins and fats. The meat in RC is dehydrated too, there is no fresh meat going into this product. To me that is just a cheap product with a huge price tag.
It scores around 3 stars on most comparison sites, so it is definitely not the worst food out there by any means. I believe my dogs deserve a 5 star food though.
Rolosmummy, if Rolo is doing well on RC don't feel you have to change him. It is all about finding the right food for your dog, and the OPs dog was definitely not thriving on it. It is always good to be informed though and to know that there are better diets out there.
