None of you probably knew that I had another dog....Sara was my old girl...18 yrs. old. She lived with my mother because she could not take the climate here in the desert and it worked out great because she was such a good and loving companion for my mom. She was a real combination of breeds....Greyhound, Ridgeback and even had a bit of wolf in her blood from her dad's side. She was deaf and partially blind but still loved to grab her toys and want to play. She was a gentle soul with a strong passion for pleasing everyone. She would lay next to me when I would be gardening and lay her foot or head on my shoe. Loved to steal the strawberries and could never get her to stop chasing the possums!!

Her favorite thing in the whole world was her frisbee....when she was younger she would run and leap into the air and catch that silly thing over and over.
Her years have finally caught up with her and she crossed the rainbow bridge...I know in my heart that she is at peace and in god's loving arms. My heart is sad along with all my family...she was a part of our lives for such a long time and what a good long life she had. My sweet old girl you will be so missed.....

Aww...it's just heartbreaking to lose one you've had for so long. My sympathies to you and your family. What a sweet old girl she was. RIP sweet Sara.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.
It's so difficult to lose a friend after all those years.
Friend isn't even the right word.

I so love the older dogs. She had as long and full a life as you could
ever hope. It just never seems it's enough.

My Carlos was born in 1991, and passed in 2009 too.
I don't go more than a few hours in a day without thinking of him.

Oh Darlene, I am so sorry for your loss. Sara was a beautiful girl. Your photo tribute to her was great. I can tell how much she was loved. 18 years is a testament to the lovely care she received during her life. If only all dogs could be so loved and so lucky. Rest in peace sweet Sara.

Thankyou all so very much...I appreciate your love and thoughts regarding my Sara girl. That is whats so great about this site...we can all come together and share our thoughts, our love and even at times our sadness and there is always people who care.
I've come to know so many of you...even though we have not met in person I almost feel that we all have been like neighbors!

My husband gave this poem to me and I wanted to share it with everyone and some of you I'm sure have read it before....For my Sara and all our little ones that we have lost.

The Last Battle

If it should be that
I grow frail and weak
and pain should keep
me from my sleep.
Then you must do
what must be done.
For this - the last battle-
can't be won.
You will be sad I understand.
Don't let grief then
stay your hand.
For on this day,
more than the rest.
Your love and friendship
must stand the test.
We have had so many
happy years,
what's to come
can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer,
so,When the time comes,
please let me go.

Take me to where my
needs they'll tend.
Only, stay with me till the end.
And hold me firm and
speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

Although my tail it's
