Default Is it safe to feed freeze dried meat treats to our fur babe???

We always buy wholesome freeze dried lamb and salmon treats for our boy because these are single meat protein source and it doesn't contain any preservatives, colors, additive since our boy always have skin allergy due some meat protein including chicken, beef, some kind of fish and also grain (he only good with lamb, salmon, turkey or maybe duck) but I have a concern about it now after I did some research about raw foods. Since freeze dried meat treats are still a raw meat so I wondering is it safe to feed or we should stop. The brand of the freeze dried lamb we have is Orijen and K9 Nature. The freeze salmon is snack 21 and Ubite. We also buy Primal turkey liver treat sometimes.u

Yes! They're not only safe, but the healthiest treats for dogs in my opinion. There is a lot of fear mongering and misinformation online about raw food... but dogs are perfectly fine with raw meat, their digestive system is fully equipped to handle it. Even if they've been domesticated and evolved to handle an omnivore diet (at some extent), dogs are still a lot like wolves and this is what they would eat in the wild.

My dogs have been eating raw and freeze dried foods and treats for years and vets always note how healthy they look. Obviously pet food companies (and the vets who endorse and get commission from some of the big brands) make a lot of money selling crap processed kibble so you'll find a lot of them trying to discourage people from feeding raw foods.

Okok great! My boy is on Acana single lamb and apple and I think they are going to change the meat to raw meat and adding salt into the ingredient. Any concern about the salt in the ingredient? Also I think the other new ingredients are dried brown kelp, hicory root, turmeric root, milk thistle, burdock root, lavender, marshmallow root, rosehips.

I don't personally know how good or bad most of those ingredients are for dogs, but Acana is a highly rated high quality kibble so I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

As for salt, even if too much of it can be bad, sodium is an essential mineral. Too little of it is as bad as too much. So even when dog foods don't list added salt in the ingredients, there will be salt naturally in the food already. Maybe Acana naturally contained too little salt and felt the need to add more? I'm not sure. If it was a cheap low quality food I would be concerned, but seeing as Acana is a very good brand, I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree with Camille. I've been feeding Lulu a raw diet (mostly commercial freeze dried raw) for years. She's very healthy, and my vet totally approves. My favorite is Primal, but she's also had plenty of Ziwi Peak, Orijen, Stella & Chewy, Nature's Variety, Sojos, and The Honest Kitchen.
