Default Raw diet and UTI/Bladder infection

I went ahead and started Jax on chicken today to get him
started eating raw. Anything I should do differently while
he's getting over his UTI/Bladder ?

Nope. Just make sure that any and all meats you buy are unenhanced. Check labels and keep sodium at less than 100mg per 4 ounces. Salt can irritate kidneys/bladder so you don't want to add that in. Otherwise you are good to go!

Maybe consider adding some Unrefined Apple Cider Vinegar. It is great for digestion and the kidneys/bladder. Start on the light side, maybe 1/4 t per meal then work up to a teaspoon a day.

Thanks Tracy!

Mel, my mom told me about the vinegar so I have been doing that.

He's also anemic, the vet thinks from the fleas, I know once he gets
going on red meat that will help increase his iron intake. Have you
guys ever had an anemic Chi before ?

If the fleas caused the anemia I would use the furminator brush daily. It will help keep him flea free ( it works like a flea comb on mine) without compromising his weakened system with extra chemicals right now.

Milk thistle is good for anemia as is kelp & vitamin C ( they help absorb iron during digestion). For food, liver & leafy greens puréed fine for easy digestion are great ( I use collard greens & parsley puréed in my Vita Mix machine & I usually throw in a carrot for good measure! I make enough to freeze & just add a little every few days every few weeks).

Hope this helps

His fleas are under control atm, I've been checking him
daily. That night when I brought him home there where huge
dead fleas all in the water like I had never seen before. I assume
that was because they had him outside.

Late last night he started having diarrhea, I'm guessing it could
be from the antibiotics he was put on or from scrounging around
while I've been walking him. I'm off to the store now to get him
some canned pumpkin.

Just saw your reply...I hope he is feeling better! Did the pumpkin clear up the diarrhea? Some yogurt could be helpful too while on the antibiotics. I had mentioned vit C in last comment...be watchful as it can cause loose stools just like in people ( so as with people, you can dose to bowel tolerance)
