Elevated liver enzymes

I took Riley (2 year old Chi, raw for about a month) to the vet for a teeth cleaning and full blood work. His blood showed elevated liver enzymes, I want to say it was ALT and it was around 450. The vet didn't really seem that concerned. I was wondering if this is something that is typical of being on a raw diet or something I should be monitoring? They also said he was dehydrated, but his last meal was the night before and this was already about 2pm the next day. They didn't end up doing the cleaning because they wrote down some other numbers wrong and thought he had a serious infection. That was a nice little freak out... They ran it again and found the error. I'm going to wait a few weeks and then take him back for another blood panel and try and get his teeth cleaned.

Hi there!! It's not uncommon for a raw-fed dog to have elevated liver enzymes. I guess, the way that SHOULD be worded, is that it's normal for a kibble-fed dog to have LOWER liver enzymes.. =P since the statistics the "norms" are based on, are from kibble fed dogs. I can't find it off-hand; but somewhere floating on the internet is an article on raw-fed dogs and bloodwork that addresses some of the variations to account for. It's great to print out and give to your vet; my vet has a copy in our record LOL! I don't have time at the moment but if you don't have luck finding it, send me a PM and I will do some digging when I get home! =)
