... I thought maybe I'd throw an idea the moderator's way. I meant to do this yesterday, as I said in my post apologizing to MissJess, but I forgot.
Perhaps a way to keep fraud off the board, or at least try and deter it, is to have people "apply". Perhaps they could give their real info when signing up and then the mod's could verify they are "real" people before allowing them full access?
I know that it would probably be a lot of work on the mods, and that's the only part of the idea that I hate. I'd be happy to help do detective work, and I know we have a couple of good detectives on here already. (I'm not saying I want to be a mod, just saying I'd be willing to help.)
Just an idea. I know that being a legit person, I would have thought twice about joining if I had to give personal info just b/c I'm a little paranoid. But after spending time reading posts and learning people's personalities, I would have gladly given any info you wanted! Except SS# of course!
Maybe the new "member" could receive a phone call or something. Be googled, etc...
Is this going overboard?
