Default In light of recent events ...

... I thought maybe I'd throw an idea the moderator's way. I meant to do this yesterday, as I said in my post apologizing to MissJess, but I forgot.

Perhaps a way to keep fraud off the board, or at least try and deter it, is to have people "apply". Perhaps they could give their real info when signing up and then the mod's could verify they are "real" people before allowing them full access?

I know that it would probably be a lot of work on the mods, and that's the only part of the idea that I hate. I'd be happy to help do detective work, and I know we have a couple of good detectives on here already. (I'm not saying I want to be a mod, just saying I'd be willing to help.)

Just an idea. I know that being a legit person, I would have thought twice about joining if I had to give personal info just b/c I'm a little paranoid. But after spending time reading posts and learning people's personalities, I would have gladly given any info you wanted! Except SS# of course!

Maybe the new "member" could receive a phone call or something. Be googled, etc...

Is this going overboard?

Jolie'sMom suggested the same thing in the Admission thread. I think it is a worthwhile idea. I would be happy to help in any way I could as well.

wow - it would be a lot of hard work on the mods! - 20+ people joining the forum everyday and the mods having to go through every single one of them - how would the mods phone them anyway because when you register, it doesn't ask you for your phone number and I know if I was someone registering on a new forum - i wouldn't like to give complete strangers my phone number....

Exactly! It would slow down the growth of the forum AND cause people to sit back and say "hmmmm.... these people are really cautious, I can't dupe them."

Anyway, it's just a thought.

maybe the admin could set it so that when you register, you would have to await a mod to activate your account - once they have activated it, it would send you an email saying - you are now able to log in or something like that?

That is a great idea... maybe the email could have instructions on doing searches for subjects, etc.. the info that's in the stickies that no one reads. LOL That would kill two birds with one stone.

A copy of the FAQ would be a great thing to send with the e-mail
