Default Looking for AKC Chocolate Merle Breeder in Ohio

Hi all.......
Im looking to find an AKC choc merle chi breeder here in Ohio.
I know of 3 breeders of chi in my state but none
breed choc merles.I am willing to go to Indiana-
Michigan-West Virginia for the right pup.
Is there anyway I can find out info about a particular
breeder of question in my state? AKC just lists
people and doesnt have feedback about peoples
experiences with any breeder. Is it considered offensive
to ask about breeders on forums like this?
I have concerns about one here.
Please help!

Many AKC breeders frown upon breeding merle's. The color pattern has been tied to blindness, deafness and neurological problems. I couldn't tell you the exact genetic "why's" of this but if you do some research on your own you will find lots of information. So that may be why you are having problems finding a breeder of that particular color.

Default Breeding stock DNA testing is a must!

Its true that care must be taken if dealing with the dilute gene.
I bred hamsters for years and it was no problem for me.
With todays technology via DNA testing and the vast amount of knowledge available on the internet, their is no excuse for the genetic errors some people commit.Yes I am aware that there are hidden merles and this seems to be the heart of the problem. But that is when the breeder becomes responsible to DNA test.I know I will find the right breeder and I am not rushing into it.
Thanks for your input!

Awesome that you have done some homework! I would ask for referrals from the breeders you contact to someone who breeds merle's. Surely someone knows of someone who breeds them.

Personally I think merle's are stunning and beautiful.

Yea, all true. My breeder, who is here in Ohio has a beautiful blue merle mom who she breeds but she is so conscientious about her breedings!!! She knows the backgrounds in her sleep. She has had some beautiful merle pups but she's very careful with it!!!

People's choices are so different. My breeder has a lot of chocolate requests. She does lots of long hair and short hair. She has waiting lists according to her parents that she's breeding. She's done this for 20 years so she has tons of repeat business. You are smart to know what you want and you've done your homework, good for you. You will find the right breeder and the perfect pup!!! Mine have kind of found me, but I knew I wanted a short hair "smaller" white chi (after Zoey on this forum) and I searched hell and high water and found a great breeder and I now have my white angel (she's a devil by the way, be careful what you wish for, he.he.he). I also knew I had to have my long hair mini doxie boy and he had to be a red. Again, searched long and hard and got my boy. My other two chi's kind of found me and they are perfect as well. Good to know what you want and be patient, you'll get your baby!!! I've read and read and read and I've learned more on this forum than I ever could have learned on my own. It's amazing the knowledge that you'll find here. Good luck!!!
