Default sewing questions

ok so I finally got my nans sewing machine today and its really old.....its electric and it works as far as i can tell but before I start doing anything one thing has been bothering me

you know when you are starting to sewing something ...well how do you like put a knot on it at the beginning and at the end when you have finished sewing because iv done a bit by hand and if you dont close it off it just comes loose over time so how can you stop that from happening ??

What do i do lol
I feel so silly asking but its been bothering me...I asked my bf if he knew anything or if he could look it up for me and he just laughed lol

Hihi, there should be a "backwards" button on the machine. So when you start or finish you just sew a few times back and forth and that is doing the trick .

If u haven't sewn before u should start out with something like a pillow to see if u can back stitch and properly stitch in a line before starting on more complex patterns

If it's an old machine and doesn't have a back button, you can just pivot the material around and re-sew about an inch. Good luck! Once you start sewing and make something you'll be addicted to sewing!

Its an old brother sewing machine model E ...Iv done a few searches and cant find anything on it ...
Im searching the house for blankets and stuff to make a snuggle bag or sack for her iv made one before for clio but i made it by hand but its a bit small now so i want a bigger one ...nights are cold iv had to buy her a mini hotwater bottle for when im watching tv late at night i put it in her bag under some blankets but she dont like it as much as she loved her snuggle bag...
