Default This brought a tear to my eye

Jewel was in a show yesterday. Many people come to see the dogs and just see what a show is about. I was touched beyond words by this occurrence. An older woman was pushing a very elderly woman in a wheel chair. I was doing some last minute grooming on Jewel. They saw her and the the younger of two made a comment about her size. I don't beleive the woman in the wheel chair could speak. She kind of grunted a little. The younger woman of the two asked if the elderly woman could "pat" Jewel. I held Jewel out to her and she gave her some pets on the head and body. An unbelievable smile came across her face. I then put Jewel carefully in her lap and squatted down next to her chair to make sure everything would be safe. The elderly was simply thrilled and was just smiling away. I will never forget that moment and the power of these little dogs. I'm so glad Jewel was able to bring a smile to the woman's face. When Jewel showed, I noticed they were on the audience watching. I caught the eyes of the woman in the wheelchair and smiled at her. She smiled back. I would guess her age was 85-90.

Very touching story. It is amazing how the little things can make the biggest impact on a person. I felt I could visualize the elderly woman smiling with joy as you told the story. It is amazing how these little dogs can touch people. Thanks for sharing.

What a sweet thing to do! That will probably be the happiest moment of her month. Mickey brought tears to a lady in Petsmart once. Something I'll never forget.

How sweet! I bet that made her day. Maybe Jewel should be a therapy dog? This reminds me of a story.

When my father was very sick with cancer I was living a few hours from home but was coming home every weekend to help and I would bring my Lola with me. On the last weekend he was on hospice and set up in a hospital bed in the living room. He was very out of it and barley spoke. I had a bell on Lola's collar (as I do when there are lots of people around so she doesn't get stepped on) and Dad heard her prancing around with her little bell and started calling to her. I put her up on his bed and she went up and licked his face and he started to giggle like a child (he usually hated it when she would like his face). He started calling her Spunky. Spunky was a little pomeranian he'd had several years back that was sadly attacked and killed by two rottweilers. He had loved that little dog so much and felt so guilty when he died. I like to think that Lola helped him with a regret he never could let go.

I remember when my mom was very sick. I had only Prince and Lady at the time. I was able to bring them to her room. They laid on her for an hour or so and she was able to pet them. That was the happiest I had seen her for a long time before the Lord took her to Heaven.
