We also have a lot of Red Tailed hawks. We live pretty much on the edge of the city. And our city is named "the forest city" so lots of woodlots and forests and open fields here. The end of city is literally only about 500 yards from our house so lots of wildlife around here. But this is the first time I have seen a Peregrin Falcon near our house. There are a few nests known in the city but I didn't think any were near our property.
And, yes, the birds go nuts when a bird of prey first shows up. And then once they have all let out their warning calls they are silent until that bird flies away. Most birds of prey will actually swoop down on smaller birds, midflight, and capture them. This is why the other birds freak out and then go silent.
