Default Update on Beverly

Beverly has now been to the vet three times in the last two weeks. Her bladder infection is clearing up but the issues with her ears is worse. Plus she has bright red spots on her chest and in her armpits. The vet said today that she has some bacterial overgrowth in and on her ears and that the spots on her chest are hot spots. They popped up so fast! She is now on Prednisolone, Gentizol ointment, and Mal-A-Ket wipes. The vet also gave her a Nextguard pill. The vet could not pinpoint what may have caused the flare up, possibly a change in our detergent, an allergen, something.

And to top it all off the vet found a grade two heart murmur today. I am beside myself that Beverly is having all these issues. I just want her better and now I am worried sick about her heart.

I would appreciate your continued prayers for fast healing for Beverly. She is is a precious little thing and doesn't deserve this!

Oh Gee Whiz!!! Why did the vet give her Nexgard when she was already having skin problems.? I wouldn't worry too much about the heart murmur---at least for now. Grade 2 is pretty minor. If it stays this way, good. Is Beverly a short coat or long coat? I'd give some coconut oil to her also.

I reread your post. Did all of this happen AFTER she had or while she was taking antibiotics for the urinary infection? If so---maybe allergies to the antibiotic might be the cause---?

She is a long coat. Should I melt the coconut oil and just rub it on her? I thought it was a reaction to the antibiotic as well but the vet said that since she was already having the skin issues (just not as bad) before we started the antibiotic, she didn't think it was that.

So sorry to hear about thus break out with Bev. I think if she hadn't had a rash like this prior to the meds, then maybe it is the meds. Especially if her blood work came back fine. I think the coconut oil is a start in the right direction. It def can't hurt. Xo

The spot on her chest is already clearing up! She has lost some of her ear fringe but her ears are getting better too. She feels better as well. She isn't playing as much as usual, but her medicine may be making her tired. Thank you for all of your support!

Wow, hope she feels better soon . This shampoo helped with our pit mix's hot spots when she used to get them:
Top Paw® Itch Ease Medicated Dog Shampoo | Shampoo & Conditioner | PetSmart

We haven't had to use it in a long time, though, since switching to raw. If the problem persists, I would look into her diet. After she feels better from everything else, first, of course.
Hot spots are such a pain to treat, especially when you can't figure out what's causing them.

I definitely agree with the coconut oil. However, it can be messy. I know some people feed it to their dogs. The Risks and Benefits of Coconut Oil for Pets | The Drake Center For Veterinary Care
