Default Smooth coat

Those of you with smooth coats, are their coats really soft or do they feel more coarse? Or does it depend?

Also, do they get much colder than the longs?

BG's is more coarse while Sonny is softer.

They both get cold easy and I have never had a long coat so I don't know if there is a difference

I have five Smooth Coats and they are all different.
Harley and Delilah both have double coats, so lots of undercoat. They never get cold, and need combing when they are moulting. They feel soft and fluffy.
The other three are single coats, so no undercoat. They definitely feel the cold more (plus these three are all quite tiny which also contributes, the double-coats are a little bigger) They never need any grooming at all. Jasper is extremely silky, his coat is very fine, which is typical of chocolates. Mouse has quite a harsh coat, especially on her back. Her head and belly are soft like peach fuzz though. Bibi is in between, not as super silky as Jasper, but not as harsh as Mouses either.
For stroking, Jaspers coat feels the nicest. Delilahs thick double coat is nicest for hugging, she feels cuddly.

I would say it depends on the dog. My two chis are smooth coats and are both very soft. Rocky's hair was more dry/coarse when we adopted him though. His previous owners fed him a really low quality food and when we switched him to a good diet, his coat became healthier and much softer.

As for getting cold, Lilo gets cold easily, but Rocky has a much thicker coat so he's not too bad. I'm not sure how they compare to long coats though.

It gets pretty cold in the Chicagoland area. So my chi's get cold regardless to fur length. We keep a lot of fuzzy blankets around and all of the dogs have sweatshirts and hoodies to wear on the days that are extra chilly. I have 3 long coat and one smooth. I'd say he's pretty soft to touch. But some smooths do have coarser coats too.

My girl is a smooth coat! She is pretty soft and silky, and gets cold extremely easily. She always has a sweater on and is cuddled in my coat, I have a very fuzzy and cozy sling carrier on it's way! LOL

I have 2 long coats and 2 short. The shorties definitely get colder quicker in winter. My long coats actually do not even wear jackets as they never shiver and often sleep on top of the blankets whereas my shorties are ALWAYS tucked away where it is warm. Rigby has much coarser coat to the touch than Roxy. Her coat is actually very soft compared to his.
