Default Peanut avoids Prissy

Ok I am a bit concerned because Peanut avoids Prissy at all costs. Like I said she loves to nip and I cannot control that habit every second so she has nipped Peanut more than once. So now he doesn't want anything at all to do with her. What can I do? he is the man of the house and I do not want him to be uncomfortable in his own home. Any suggestions fellow chi lovers?

Sorry, I'm not yet familiar with everyone's situations lol. How old are each of them and how long have you had them both? It's probably just a normal adjustment period and he needs time to warm up to her.

Do you have any pics of your dogs? I don't believe I've seen any.
I do recall you coming on and introducing yourself again, and saying you would be adding another chi whom was 6 weeks at the time. I think you were going to get her the following week. I imagine she's 8-9 weeks old.? She's very young. We get a lot of newbies on here that have attained chi's as 6-7-8 wks old and have the same issue you are having. Nipping, snippiness. This is the reason breeders usually keep pups til 10-12 wks of age. Most pups learn bite inhibition and the basic do's and dont's from their mom and litter mates. In your case, your pup is already away from its parents and siblings and in a new environment. The good news is, this will pass. Peanut needs time to get used to Prissy and Prissy needs time to learn what to and not to do and what is acceptable. She needs to be taught some commands and to be socialized. You need to remove yourself and Peanut away from Prissy any time she displays unwanted behaviors. It is important to use positive reinforcement and reward her when she is displaying proper behavior and responding positively to commands. Try engaging the two in activities around the house together with treats as the reward. I'm sure others will chime in with their thoughts and advice.

I use the app on my iPhone/iPad, so it's kinda tough for me to view the photo albums. There's no option on the app version of this forum 😥. As for posting pics 😊most of us use photobucket. It's very easy and it walks you right through. If you type photobucket in the search box on here, there is a tutorial.

As for Peanut and Prissy. They are very new to one another and they need time to form a relationship. It cannot be forced. Let them sort it out on their own. Do intervene when miss Prissy is misbehaving though. She is only 7 weeks old and too young to be away from her parents and litter mates. Give it a few more weeks. I bet you'll see a big difference. It took my now 5 yr old chi's, several months to accept my 3rd addition. And it was still a while before they formed a relationship. Every dog is different. Some become good friends and others learn to coexist 😊.

6 weeks was definitely younger than she should have been away from her mom, but I don't agree that 7 weeks is too early. We brought Finley home at 7 weeks and the timing was perfect. He fit in pretty seamlessly.

A week is not very long for a dog who is used to being an only child to adjust to an obnoxious puppy lol. Definitely don't try to force it, you'll just make things worse. Eventually, he will warm up to her, I'm sure. Gizmo hated Finley for two days, and then they were BFFs. But Tink is still not 100% adapted to having Fin around, and we've had him for 9 weeks now. She's good with him, sort of kind of plays with him once in a while, but still not uber excited about his puppy self. Different personalities react in different ways

Default Peanut avoids Prissy

Awe lol see there's hope sooner than you thought. Have you gotten any chew toys for her? Pet stages makes some really good ones. Just hold tight, the biting stage will stop soon. My 3rd puppy Brax bit me a lot when I got her. It was very frustrating for me and I was feeling discouraged and felt like she'd never stop. But she did. And now she's 2.5 yrs and quiet as a mouse, shy as can be, and never barks, will lick you to death and sweet as pie
