I'm glad she punched the guy and managed to stop him! Well done to the chihuahua for letting her know. They're such great watch dogs!
I agree with everyone about the yappy thing though. Dogs bark for all kinds of reasons and while some dogs (of all breeds) bark excessively, surely barking at an intruder/thief is one of those times when it's a good reason to bark and really shouldn't be called yapping. lol
I keep telling people that dogs do not bark for nothing! Just because I don't hear it or smell it or see it doesn't mean it's not there. And I like that they bark when I come home. I think they missed me. They all have different voices and I think that's kind of cool. Rheana has a tiny, squeaky bark like chalk on a blackboard. Fitting with her 2.8 lbs. Pearl has a deep, throaty bark like a german shepard. Very surprising to see that coming from a 3.5 lb. dog. My big dog doesn't have that deep a voice. And they "sing" in perfect harmony! I, however, can't carry a tune so I do not join them.
Any time anyone complains to me about their "yappy" dog, the first thing I ask them is, "Did you go see what he was talking about?" That can be the MAJOR "training up" that a "yappy" dog needs, go investigate! He's telling you for a reason! It can make a "yappy" dog feel way more secure if you go investigate what he's talking about and then reassure him, instead of discarding his "message" and trying to ignore it! Small dogs don't have many tools, but one of them is definitely "telling you what's going on!" Great story!
