Someone i know wears loads of perfume. When i bath honey she holds the scent for ages until this person touches her then literally all you smell is their perfume. Normally i spray her with pet head detangler which is fairly smelly but i don't mind it. I don't know whether they changed what they use but this time the spray worked for a short while then now she stinks of perfume again. I literally can't even touch her because it makes me sneeze, and it is making me itch while she is across the room.

What can i do? I can't bath her every time this happens and her coat is much nicer like a month after bathing. But i need to cuddle her now!

You could try making a spray of baking soda and water to neutralize the smell, or white vinegar and water. There is also a product called XO that is a pet-safe odor neutralizer that I have liked when I had access to it. Maybe wipe her with a pet wipe before any spray to get some off the surface?

To be clear, the perfumed person is someone you know, and the dog smells fine to you after you give her a bath until she is around this person again?

Sorry to hear that. I, too, am irritated by certain perfumes. Does this happen when the person holds her, or just when she pets her? Is it possible to tell the person not to hold her, because of the issue? Sometimes, it's hard to talk about such an issue with the other person, but they may be understanding enough to help you stop it from happening.

I can imagine that the scent of the perfume may be irritating for the dog, too, especially since they have much better senses of smell than us.

You could tell the person that you have a perfume allergy and to please apply her perfume after she leaves your company. I had this with my daughter and that's what I told people. They all understood as it really is not their fault.

Thanks. Yeah it is someone close and also it is just when she pets her as well as cuddles etc. And yes she just smells of the shampoo until the perfume. I hadn't thought of it irritating honey though, i suppose i could say it is making her skin bad? She is quite an allergicy dog too!

That might be easier on the other person to blame it on the dog!
