Default People!!! Ranting.....

I take Dorothy to work every day. There is a large glass door and the glass goes to the floor. One of her favourite things to do is sit there and look out the door and watch the world go by. There is also a pet store two doors down. Dorothy LOVES people but is very intimidated by dogs - especially big dogs (she was attacked by a big dog once before we got her). Well, my rant.......it drives me NUTS when people walk by with their big dogs, and then STOP at the window and stand there laughing with their BIG dog all the while Dorothy is going absolutely nuts. I mean, MOVE ON! It's NOT funny that your dog is intimidating to my dog. Do they really think that ANY dog who is freaking out is experiencing something positive? I get that they have to walk by and if they do Dorothy typically lets out one "yip" and it's over. But when they stop and stand there with their dog, who is ten times the size of Dorothy (or more) touching their noses to the glass what the hell do they expect?

Grrrr..........................

Aww poor Dorothy. Some people don't take small dogs seriously and think everything they do is funny. Then there are those who are really pathetic and feel like big dogs make them superior in some way. So they love it when their big dog intimidates small dogs. I see that a lot when out and about... my two aren't scared of big dogs, but I hate it when big dog owners laugh at my chis and say things like "my dog could eat your dogs" as if it's something to be proud of.

Ugh I know exactly what you're talking about! We deal with this all the time with Finley doing his BAT training. Some people are good and understand we're training. Other people though....want to strangle them! They decide that despite the fact we are CLEARLY busy training and ignoring everyone around us that their dog should visit the cute little pup. My hubby always cuts them off when they start moving towards us and explains he's training and whatnot, and they just about always ignore him. "No its okay, Muffin is friendly blah blah blah". When they get too close of course Finley starts FREAKING OUT barking and growling and lunging at the dog, and these morons are like "he wants to visit, he's fine" as I'm pulling Finley back to his comfort zone again. Seriously? How can you possibly think he's being friendly and wants to visit??!! How can you not tell he's freaking out and totally stressed! And when we continue to pull him away and tell them to keep back, we often get "just let him visit, he'll be fine" followed by stupid training tips. UGH UGH UGH. What is wrong with people? At the very least, you are completely ignoring and disregarding our desire and clear request for you to stay away from our dog. What right do you have to decide whether you have access to another person's dog or not??? Bleh. End rant lol.

This is why I despise the yellow ribbon project fliers I see everywhere. The concept is that you tie a yellow ribbon to your dog's leash so people know to give them space. That is so dumb, because the default should be giving space unless permission is given otherwise!

Yeah the ribbon thing is an interesting idea, but in reality if people can't respect other people's spaces even when told not to approach, they'd definitely ignore a ribbon.

My chis are very friendly, but a while back Rocky started developing leash issues after an incident with a dog. Lilo is ok, but if Rocky snaps at a dog, she started joining in to back him up. We've been working on it and it's getting a lot better, but every time I tell people he's not good on the leash and not to approach, many come over anyway.

I hate that. I have some family members that think it is funny to be super loud and stomp all over the place because it makes one of my dogs hide behind a table. Seriously? Scaring a tiny dog is funny? I think I would say something in your case. It isn't funny!
