Default Chihuahua cautions !

Just some idea's to keep your fur baby safe.
Never leave a small dog outside unattended, even with a fenced yard there are just too many things that can hurt or take it, like birds of prey, coyotes, raccoons, large dogs, snakes, etc. coyotes can jump a 6 foot fence so.
I never not have him on a leash when outside, and even then have had other dogs out of no ware approach him. So always be aware, in my area last summer a person was walking in a park and even picked up his little dog when the bigger dogs showed up and one of them still got the little dog from him, yes didn't end good. It was on the news. Be aware of people than may try to steal from you as well when out and walking or holding it.

As far as going potty, with the chance of what I mentioned above, and since little 4ish pound Chihuahua's are such low impact potty wise. I recommend potty pads inside a designated room, and its nice they can do the business when they need to and not be uncomfortable holding it, its only fair you wouldn't like to go out in the freezing cold to go, yeah depending on where you live.

Never leave a small dog in a car, some bad people looking to make a buck on some ad service could break in, ruin something on the car doing it and take the dog. And then there is also the over heating issue in the hot sunny areas.

Always read labels on human food, it is best not to have anything in your house or on yourself that contains xylitol, very deadly to dogs, way worse than chocolate and even antifreeze and takes a very small amount to make a bad out come. With a small dog I would think even if you had a very small amount of say pan cake syrup that has xylitol in it on your hand or clothes and it licks it, that maybe enough to cause a problem, just be careful.

I see the missing dog and cat ad's all the time online and that prompted me to write this.

Good post! Xylitol makes the dog's blood sugar go way down. You should read labels for sure. If you let your dogs lick your plate before you put them in the washer, make sure what is left on the plate is safe.
