Unhappy Wellness

I called and spoke with the folks at wellness and they said they have not manufactured their own dry food for over 5 years, they said they use several different manufactures and diamond is not one of them. She also said that their formulas are all comupterized and nothing has changed. I asked, well how could so many dogs be having the same problems all feed with your food and naturally she had no answer. She also said that one of the biggest offenders of allergies is chicken. I felt like she was just giving me a bunch of BULL. How are we to trust these companies with our pets lives? I don't really know if changing would do any good, they all have these deceptive practices.

I understand your frustration Tanna. That's why I am where I am today. I didn't trust the pet food industry anymore. I think there ARE some good companies out there, but I think the industry as a whole is pretty crooked. This is true for human foods as well. *sigh*

Red face

I've looked into changing my dog's food a bunch of times but have always reached the conclusion that I am happiest with what I feed them (Innova). Innova at the very least has it's own manufacturing plant. They did have recalls back in 07 but since then haven't had any issues. It's such a hard call to make because we're trusting the lives of our pets to these manufacturers.

I know a LOT of people have had problems with Wellness lately and you may want to consider switching. Something iffy is going on with them right now, who even knows???

I spoke directly with a representative in Consumer Affairs at Wellness about their manufacturers on March 15, 2010 and she (I have her name but do not want to share it publicly) told me directly that their Wellness dry dog foods ARE manufactured by Diamond, Menu Foods, and ANI. I even have an email to prove it. Not only that but you can look up "Wellness Natural Pet Food for Dogs and Cats" on their Facebook page where they have even admitted on their wall back in February that some of their dry dog foods are made by Diamond. Don't take my word for it? You can look it up yourself. Not sure the exact date of the post but I believe it was sometime in February.

Geez, this is all so terrible. I don't feed Wellness, I feed By Nature Organic kibble, but I too have been having trouble with this new bag of food. The rep I spoke with said they have not reformulated and told me they have their own production plant (which I was aware of...) but still something is not right with this food. I can see it from the kibble in the bag and I can see it from my pups...

I hate that they lie to us! Can't be trusted when there is money to be made..!

Oh no, I feed my dog wellness. What is wrong with it? When I get my pup should I not start her on Wellness.

It's not so much necessarily that there is something "wrong" with Wellness, its just that they have recently changed their manufacturer to Diamond, which is a dog food manufacturer with a less than stellar record including many recalls. Because its a new manufacturer they've also reformatted how they make the food too, of course, and that sudden change to a pup's stomach when you change a bag might cause intestinal upset, diarrhea, vomiting, etc.

Many of us here feed Innova, EVO, Taste of the Wild, or we have a lot of raw feeders lol. We are sort of food-obsessed here, the topic comes up all the time. I think there are a few threads here talking about food, recently infact. You might want to peruse those. We also have some members that were feeding Wellness that started having issues when they got their most recent bag.

I hope you figure out what will work best for you and your pups!

Here's a thread where we all talk about what we feed. Keep in mind we have people on the forum worldwide so you'll want to look at the options available to you.

One of the problems is that the person at the call center might or might not have the correct information to give out. It could be outdated.

If there's any intentional deception going on, which may or may not be the case, I suspect it's being done at a level higher-up than the individuals who are directly interacting with the public on the phone. So we can't even really get steamed and bend the ear of the people who take the calls, as they're only able to give us the information they have gotten from above.
