Default Car Seats- why every owner should have one

Wiener dog blamed for wreck | News - Home

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - All dogs are excited to go to the dog park but Gio, a dachshund, tried to get there a little sooner.

91-year-old Vic Vickers says Gio jumped onto his right foot that was still on the accelerator, shooting his SUV forward, through a fence and right towards the Bear Creek Dog Park.

“I knew I was going to go in where all the other animals were so I made that run which headed me towards the creek,” Vickers said. “I was thinking I would surely be able to get it stopped before going that far, but I couldn’t.”

Vickers with Gio still on his foot drove straight down a steep embankment into Bear Creek.

“I just thank the lord I’m here because I missed a tree that was 10 inches in diameter, if I had hit it I wouldn’t be here,” Vickers said.

Vickers suffered scratches on his arm; he says Gio didn’t get hurt. And despite wrecking his car, Vickers says there are no hard feelings with his best friend.

“It’s not his fault; he didn’t know what he was doing. After he got on my foot, I didn’t know what I was doing,” Vickers said.

I have always seat belted my hounds but I was never sure what to do with the littles until I can here and saw car seats. I have one now and I am very thankful I do! I can only imagine what this guy was thinking when his pup got on the gas peddle

I totally agree! We used to use Jaxx's crate and seat belt it in until we got him a car seat. There are so many dangers that can happen in a car for these little ones. So many people think it is safe for them to sit in the front seat (bad idea even with a seat belt because of airbags.) Other people think it is safe to hold them but the first thing that is going to happen in an accident is the dog is going to go flying.

Car seats will always be a mandatory item in our household for small dogs and seat belts for bigger dogs.

Agree 100%!!! People shouldn't take dogs in the car without proper safety precautions.
Funny thing about car seats, I was inquiring to travel by car through some countries (in Europe) and doggie car seats are not consider safe, you need to use a crate/carrier otherwise you get a fine.

My hubby is making a custom car seat right now. I'm going to do the uphosterly. Right now he rides with his little seat belt, although I am guilty of holding him when I'm not driving some times.

But you are holding him and not driving while holding him
