Default Pup not pooing.

Posted this on feeding page but thought would see if anyone over on this page could help. Neighbor who is a vet looked at pup last night and did not suggest as yet anything. Baby still full of energy so he was not so concerned yet. But i am!

Been bottle /syringe feeding newborn for 5 days now. Been going well and until today baby was pooing and peeing great with stimulation. Today however no poo. Peeing still good. Have added a little extra water now to fomula and will see if that helps.

Baby is not bloated, only very round after eating. Not in pain. Energy levl the same. By next feeding belly is nice and soft and small again. Listened with a stethoscope ( as you do in humans) and there are bowel sounds present. But just no poo at all!

Mom has been hanging out with baby alot now but i have never as yet seen her licking him. And he is usually sleeping when they are together.

Dont know what to think. If no improvement with added water. Will head to vet.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If he seems well in all respects except that, it could very well be that mom did the job for you. Can you try keeping her away from him? If you cannot get him to go after she has not been with him then I agree a trip to the vet is in order. Poor little one! I hope he is ok!

Been to the vet after talking first to my 2 friends that are vets as well ( unfortunately they specialise in larger animals but have enough experience to calm me down at least). Just nervous this morning! Vet says pup is healthy and looks good but more often then not they get constapated when hand fed. She gave him a tiny mini enama and out it came. Never been so happy to see poop in my life. she gave some to take home ad said it will probably happen again but should regulate itself in another week. Feeling better and more relaxed now.
