Default advice needed for my chihuahua

Hi my chihuahua developed a rash a couple of days ago. She has been itching quite a lot. The rash is on her ears and belly. I left it a day gave her an allergy tablet. Then she seemed to start swelling up on her head especially round her eyes. I took her to the vets today and they gave her a steroid injection along with an antihistamine one. They gave me steroid tablet and piraton. She seemed to get worse throughout today so I rang the vets and they told me to give her a piraton. I have given her one and she seems to be getting worse. Not sure what to do any advice? On the verge of taking her to the vets emergency tonight. I can't think what the reaction is to ?I used febreze the other day but nothing else has changed. Help !

Can you remove items you sprayed with the Febreeze that she might still be coming in contact with to see if that is the problem? Otherwise it could be a bug bite or something?

Hi yes I moved the blankets and that's all I sprayed. I am thinking she has been bitten but can't find where there is a bite area and the vet didn't seem to think she had. She is asleep now so I think maybe I should leave it till the morning. Thanks for replying x

If she is still eating, drinking, and eliminating normally, it can probably wait. I had a boxer mix that would get hives all over occasionally, and I assumed it was a bite or sting, but never saw the site of a bite.

Thank you. I'm sure I'm over reacting. She hasn't eaten tonight. .I've just put some water in front of her and she's had a few sips .I'm going to wait till the morning and see how she is. I was more worried if her mouth swells up but her breathing seems normal. Thanks again x

If she was given a steroid (cortisone), hopefully that would prevent her throat from closing up. I'd change all the bedding she is sleeping on too. The prednisone will make her want to urinate more, so be fore warned! Keep us posted.

And be very very careful with steroid use. Sometimes it's necessary (I have RA and have taken a small dose for years), but particularly with small dogs and cats it can cause kidney damage. That doesn't mean you should never use it, but keep it to a minimum. And what about giving her a bath with a gentle shampoo - or an oatmeal one - and lots of rinses to get the Febreeze off her skin?
