Default Dog Show

I went to an AKC dog show this weekend as a spectator. The breeder of my clan was showing this guy. He got second on two days. There was quite a group of long haired Chis. Also, I loved this miniature poodle. So cute even with "butt" pom poms!

Really neat!! I had a poodle named Susie for a very short time when I was a little girl. She was an adult that an older couple felt they couldn't care for anymore and gave her to us. The first night, Mom put her outside to potty she ran straight out into the dark and into our pool! lol

Oh goodness, that is funny. I just don't get the "butt" Pom poms on the poodles! Their little rear ends must get cold!

Originally, the butt Pom poms were to insulate their hip joints from the cold water. Poodles were originally bred for retrieving.

Poodles were originally bred to retrieve from water, so the show clips are based on traditional designs that were intended to protect the joints and vital organs. So although he has a fancy frou frou image today, he has working class roots lol.

Interesting, I didn't know that. When I see poodles I always think why do they always shave them with those funny shapes? lol I think they look cute with their hair how it's meant to be naturally or a bit trimmed.

OK this is good information about how/why they are clipped the way they are. I never really looked into the breed so I didn't know. I don't care for the big poodles at all but the little minis sure were cute. I also like miniature greyhounds too. However, wouldn't give up my Chis for anything!
