Default Beach walk

I am so lucky to live by the sea! I'm working at home at the moment, so yesterday when I saw a glimmer of sunshine, I seized the opportunity to take the gang out. I could't have predicted how glorious it would be, and what fun. Hardly anyone around, and so much space for the kids to run around like maniacs. We ended up being out for nearly 2 hours, as we were all enjoying ourselves so much.

TJ looking epic.

Ooh, what's a tree doing on the beach, mum?

Luka, Frodo and Dollar.

Titus, Truly and Dollar.

Was there ever a cuter little bum than Titus's?

Lovely!!

So I have to ask how do you manage them all on lead?

I have to only take two dogs of our three when we walk (then take two walks or alternate) because I can't control them all at once.

I was going to ask the same question, do you take all 8 out by yourself?
I usually only take 3 out on my own, all 5 if my daughter is with me.

Ours are varied sizes..I think I could do 3 if they were all chis, but I have one chi, a 21 pound heeler mix and a 55 pound heeler mix so it gets crazy.

Super curious how you manage it!

I manage! Florrie goes in the kangaroo pouch, and the others walk to the beach on lead. I've tried splitter leads, but have found them unworkable. Multiple dogs on multiple splitter leads get far more tangled than multiple dogs on separate leads. They are trained to walk on my left side - I hold all their leads in one hand - and they each have a place in the group that they tend to stick to. Once we're at the beach, they're all off lead. They have good recall, and I always have treats with me and do some training exercises while we're walking.

I would stress that the beach is the only place I'd have all 8 dogs off lead at once, because I can keep an eye on them all. If we go to the park, I do two separate trips - one for the fast walkers, and one for the littlies. If we go out altogether, we'll walk for a good hour or more, but if I do separate trips, we're out for about 30-40 minutes per walk.

I hear you on the couplers! In my experience they cause more stress for both me and the dogs! I walk my 4 together, each on their own leash. They each chose their own place to walk in, and as long as they don't pull, they all walk side by side in front of me. Having a good recall is soooooo important - It's always the 2nd thing I work on when training!

Your pack is beautiful and they look like they had a great time! I wish I lived so close to a dog friendly beach... Or any beach, for that matter!
