Cool Neevas crazy coat..

My little fur ball is surely changing.
She's still weighing in at around 1.7 pounds the now but boy does she eat. I was also looking at old pictures when I first viewed her at around 7/8 weeks she was jet black with just the tan markings.. But the past few weeks she's been developing a blueish tint to her black and her tan is diluting down. It was my partner that noticed it as I couldn't care less about markings all chi's are beautiful to me but i'm really digging it she looks well cool. Its not a huge blue tint but it does make her look so pretty in the light! But coats change so much with our chi's so once she blows this coat we will see.
I'm also wondering what is the best grooming wise? This is my first LC are their coats meant to be this thick at such a young age? I find it very difficult to bathe Neeva it takes a lot for her to get wet then Im so used to towel drying Pablo but even after a good 15 minutes of towel drying and brushing her its still soaking I've even tried to brush her before she's in the tub but no luck. Any help would be amazing! Totally stumped am I doing something wrong I don't want to hurt her or anything I'm totally paranoid. Attached some pics of her colour though excuse the awful iPAD camera.

You can kinda see the tint here, the tan on the inside of her ears and brows is still the same.

The most tired face you'll see today ha, you can see the tan on her neck diluting down.

My little floofball.

Annnnnnd just a pretty shot to show her off I can't rest

She is beautiful.Yes mine take ages to dry, always bath them on a hot day,so we sit outside and the sun usually dries them.If it's too chilly i warm the towel up in the dryer so that helps. One of my other ones doesn't mind the hair dryer

Thanks Michele! I think she's quite the looker too She prances around like a little show horse Its hilarious! Ive been giving her a blow dry on low heat which seems to work better she doesn't mind it as much I give her loads of treats during it which keeps her happy she's a total grubber.

Chi puppies change colour a lot.
She can't go from black to blue though, that is genetic, she is either one or the other.
The red pigment (such as on her tan markings) usually gets darker with age, but with long coats you get to see more undercoat as the coat comes in and that is often much lighter. Even my smooth black and tans have almost white under colour in places.
She is very cute, keep the pics coming

Her daddy was a solid blue if that helps? its an odd colour its not a jet black but I think she's a cutie so alls good.
I am excited to watch her change Pablo has changed so much since he was her age its crazy looking back on puppy pics. You're right with the red pigment when we first got pablo he was a fawn colour and he's just got darker and darker. I love it!

It is true as Stella said. It has to be one or the other. It's okay if her dad was a blue. She can still be classified as Black and Tan though. Which is what I see. She is also just a baby so that true black isn't as prominent yet, she probably looks more off black in person lol. Once she blows her coat it'll all change and she'll look more Black and Tan. Also the under coat at this young an age is a funky texture, usually kinda kinky, thus being the reason why she's not getting too wet when you try and wash her. That too will get easier once her coat has blown and new coat comes in. I would be careful how many baths you're giving though, as It will surely dry out her coat. She is a beauty regardless. Watching her grow and change will be fun.

Blue is a recessive colour, meaning it has to come from both parents as you need two copies of the gene for it to affect the coat colour.
Neeva will carry blue, as she has inherited one copy of the gene from her dad, but black is dominant so she will always be black.
You can only have one black series colour (black, chocolate, blue or lilac) on a dog, it is impossible to have black and blue, or black and chocolate etc on the same animal. (The only exception being the merle gene, which only dilutes certain areas in the coat, making black/blue and choc/lilac possible)
