The things some people do My hubby went out our front door about 2 hrs ago and you will never guess what was on our front step. There was a small dog crate and a grocery bag. In the crate was an adult chihuahua!! I'm not positive if she is mixed with anything or not, you all can help determine that by the pics. Whoever dropped her off left the crate, alittle note that read "My Name Is Baby", her food bowls, 2 bags of food, and a thiing of treats. I haven't seen the dog around our neighborhood or anything so I'm not sure where she came from. Should I report it?? I don't have a problem with keeping her I just don't know what I need to do from here.
That's a shame. It's good that she's found someone willing to keep her. What I might do is check in with your vet. I don't know how big of a town you live in. But a vet might know who her previous owner was. Then you could try and contact him/her if you want. I suppose that there's a chance that whoever owned her didn't want to get rid of her, and that someone else put her on your door. I would keep an eye out on the papers as well, or for fliers saying that she is lost. Other than that, I think you're okay to keep her. It would be just like if you took in a stray I think. I am not sure how much effort I would put into finding her owner though. If the owner gave her up, then it's all for the best.
Wow! What a surprise! I'd definately call the local animal shelter and make sure no one has reported a missing dog. Just in case she was snitched from someone else.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had that thought as a possibility. Although I'm not sure I think it's the most likely scenario. I was afraid that I was alone in my cynicism about my fellow man... lol
Thank you Kipbug. I definately don't mind giving her a home or atleast fostering for awhile, Whatever was to become of it...but I would hate to think that maybe someone was looking for her. I am still in soooo much shock, I just can't believe that someone would do something like that....
I know that you've fostered other dogs -- is it known in your area that you do that? I was just assuming that someone decided they couldn't care for her any longer and knew that you would. But the others have brought up a good point -- that maybe someone else took her (like maybe a neighbor who didn't like her barking or going potty in their yard or something stupid like that). Either way, I know she has a good home now - even if it's just temporary!
Thanks Hollysmommy. I'm sure there are some people in the area that know we have fostered before, and we regularly take ours on walks in the area so they could have seen us then. But I don't think alot of people know that we have done that. I too am worried and plan to call the local shelter in the morning just to be safe. I will keep her until she is claimed or as long as I possibly need to, whether it be for a while or forever. Thanks again everyone!
