Default Why does Kobi look different?

Why does my Kobi look so different from the other Chi's? Is he even a Chi? He isn't papered and was acquired for us by a friend who personally knew the breeder and had purchased Chi's from him in the past. We never saw the parents or any of the other pups as this breeder lives several hours away. All details were handled by phone & email or through our friend. Is he a mix? I don't really care if he is, cause he's just cute as a button anyway, just wanted to be sure we've got the right breed.

Alie & Kobi

Thumbs up

it is a possibility that he is a cross but basically I think he looks different because he does not have the 90 angle for his stop which he should have and he is a bit longer in the muzzle.

There are hundereds of dogs out there which looks like him - he just isn't as close to the breed standard as some are.

Chocolates also tend to look different for some reason - maybe because you don't see lots of them about.

As long as he is loved.....thats all that counts.

By the way - he looks like he is a happy little fellow!

Yes, I've noticed his muzzle is much longer than on other Chi's pictures I've seen here. Also his eyes are much smaller too and he's very fuzzy, so he's not a short hair, but he's not quite a long hair either. He's just an odd ball, lol.

We love him no matter what anyhow, even if does turn out to be a mix.

It takes up to 3 yrs old to get their full coat so that wouldnt be an issue. Also lots of Chis have longer muzzles. There are so many people breeding chis and not necessarily to better the breed so Chis come in all shapes and sizes now days I would say that he could be full chi or possibly mixed with Pomeranian or spitz? Regardless of whether he is full or not he sure is stunning and I love his color

How old is he and how much does he weigh?

Thanks, I love his color too, which is why I picked him! He is 12 weeks old and weighs 4lbs exactly as of his last vet visit.

Being that size at 12 weeks it is very possible that he isnt full. He reminds me of a breed that I just cant put my finger on? Maybe Keeshond?

His eyes look smaller because he has pink rims - its a bit of an optical illusion. His coat won't have grown in yet as he is still only a baby it can take 2-3 years to get the proper coat. Anyway in my opinion too many chihuahuas are becoming too heavily coated.

If he was 4lb at 12 weeks its likely that he will be about 8lb fully grown. 12 weeks is an accurate age to double the weight to work out his adult weight.
