Default New Everything and flying!!

Hi all- I am getting my first ever Chi on Wed. He is a longhaired 9 month old boy. I am having him flown to me and I am sooo scared. Just wondering if anyone has every had a dog flown to them. I have tons of questions and plan to use this site often. I do know that if it is too hot that day he can't fly but from weather reports, looks like it should be a go. He will be flying for a bit over 7 hours!!! I feel so awful about that. I will be readly and waiting with something for him to drink but when he arrives, I still have a two hour drive to get him home. Any sugguestions on how to make it easier for him? Also, at the moment he is not potty trained. Just paper trained and the breed has a doggie door for all her Chi's to come and go as they please. I am going to try to crate train as both my husband and I have full time jobs. Haven't picked a name yet for him so here is a photo. Hope someone can helpe me with one. Lastly, at vet visit this weekend he weight 3lbs 6oz. The vet said he is pretty much done growning at almost 10 months old. Is that true. In all of the photos he looks huge to me, so I can't imagine a pup that size. I have had a Yorkie in the past but she was a bit bigger than that.

Welcome! He is a darling! I cannot help with all of your questions, but other kind people here will be able.
MANY people here have heir babies flown to them. I have not done that (yet!) so have no experience. It seems to be quite a common practice.
My girls are just a bit younger than him and close in size. Ruby is 8 months and Hope will be 9 months in 9 days. They weigh 3.5 lbs. (so 3 lbs. 8 oz.) and 3.6 lbs. His size and theirs is small-average. AKC acknowledges 2 lbs.-6 lbs. as breed standard so he will certainly be somewhere right in the middle as I expect my girls will be. I do not believe that my girls are done growing. It really varies. There are some here whose little ones were finished as early as 6 months and others whose babies grew until 2 years old. It is sort of a wait and see!
I'll bet he only looks big because of his great fur! Once you bathe him you will get a sense of his real body size.
On names, let us know if you prefer cute names, people names, traditional dog names, etc. That will help narrow it down.
Best wishes on getting him to you. Congrats!!

I flew a 10 week old Pomeranian in a 4 hour flight. He did great. I heard the attendants kept good eye on him.

He's beautiful!!! Congrats!! I cant help with the flying solo thing...But Im sure he will do fine. Also....Chihuahua's grow until they are 2 years old. His growth will just be more subtle at this point. Your new baby will still fill out more and probably gain a little more weight.

he's a gorgeous boy! I think you are very lucky. What a cutie.

Most dogs just sleep on the plane. He probably won't be too stressed out, but may be unsure of his new home/surroundings for awhile until he gets used to everything. Most dogs can take that in stride, some take a little more time. Be patient and allow him time to settle in with you.

Keep us posted and take lots of pics!

Hello, cute little chi..I haven't had any flown in..but my sister has with a few of her doxie's...first one did fine..second was a tad anxious when she was uncrated, I told her to let her touch the grass NOW! and then the puppy calmed down and was okey dokey from then on...she just needed to get her feet back on the ground. The other's I didn't go help pick up. That's all the insight I can give.
