Default Petsmart trip

I went to Petsmart today. I bought some grain free dog food. So many of mine are allergic to the different grains, instead of buying the crappy food I found that meets all there allergy requirements, why not go grain free and get a better quality food? Well, duh, so dumb it took me this long to figure this out. lol Any of you that feed the grain free, do I feed the same amount? Because i mixed a little in their old kibble and they swarmed all over it and even got a little snarky at each other trying to eat it all up themselves. if they like it this much, will it cause them to over eat? I also brought Lexxi and Delilah with me. Lexxi's been there before, she's great on a leash. This is the first time Delilah's been out of the house except to go to the vets or to get fixed. I was a little nervous, but she did GREAT! The only time she lost it was when this man came in with a yellow lab bigger than he was and completely out of control. It must have weighed over 100 pounds, he was huge. And jumping and lunging and being a big ol' puppy. Delilah freaked and did the chihuahua scream of death and tried to climb up my leg. I didn't pick her up, I talked to her and calmed her down enough that she peeked around my leg and barked at him a little like saying "where's your manners?" And she wasn't too happy waiting in the grooming department for Lexxi to get her nails clipped, but she again calmed down pretty fast and just hid behind my daughter's legs. They both let everyone pet them, even the kids. Lexxi tolerates it, but Delilah runs up to kids wagging her tail. jumping around and giving kisses. I got Delilah a new springtime collar and a tag with her name and info on it since I still can't find the one she managed to hide around here so well.

What fun!! She is sooooo pretty! Look at that shiny coat!
I have always fed grain free since Hope has grain issues apparently (except a lapse in judgement when I let the vet talk me into a prescription food with grain). They are probably just excited because it is something new!

Well, when I saw the caption of the post, I had to peek in to see if you took them all with you!

Good for Delilah! Some of these big dogs need to learn some manners!

I would never try to take them all at once! What kaos that would have been.

Lexxi was great, just stood her ground and barked at him. Delilah had been attacked by a pit bull and had her pelvis broken, so I can understand her fear. So her being able to calm down enough without being picked up is great.

You'll end up feeding less quantity with a quality grain free food.
The food contains more nutrition, and more calories per volume, if you think about it.

I figured out the calories my dogs need in a day ( with the help of the vet) and did the math to feed them the measured amount ( in grams) that works out to the required calories.

It takes a little work to set up, but once you have the value, it it's very simple to measure out the exact amount. If they are getting chubby, you can easily dial it back a few grams, and if they are undernourished ( you'll see in the coats and behavior) you can bump it up a few grams.

It's also easier to adjust for the winter, when mine don't get nearly the amount of exercise they do in the summer.

Thanks Alan. You mean I have to do math to figure this out? Eeew Math and I don't get along. lol I free feed, looks like I may have to do individual feedings now. But this may help in getting Reggie to lose the extra weight.
