Back from the Chihuahua parade! 2 short videos.
What a morning!!
It was crazy but fun. It is hotter than it should be this early in May here. I am glad that I brought water for the girls and that I have taught them to drink from the lid of a water bottle.
A professional photographer took their pictures for a donation to the shelter. I'll get a link to them next week and will share then. I only got one picture because with a purse, sling, 3 dogs, 3 leads, all the people and other dogs it was just too chaotic to manage a camera!
Ruby did SO well. I am convinced it is because my husband was there and managed her.
So many cute dogs in sombreros, costumes and dresses. Our girls are not that small but everyone kept asking if they were puppies. We heard, "Oh! 3 teacups" and "how did you get 3 that are all so tiny" a LOT. Eden did meet a twin of her. They were colored the same. I asked how old she was and the girl said 4. I said, oh, she is 4 years old and she said, No. she is 4 months old! haha! So many of you here have dogs the same size or smaller and we are used to their size I guess. Or it was because my husband is a big guy and he walks around with 3 small dogs!
I was surprised how many people asked where we got them. I was not expecting that question. I said 16 months, 19 months and 20 months 100 times. I also said 3.5 and 4 pounds as many times. I cannot get over how friendly everyone was.
I captured a couple of very rough videos with my phone.
We met some VERY nice people. People were VERY kind and asked and asked if they could take pics of the girls and with the girls.
The sweetest was an elderly couple. The woman just kept remarking about the girls and how they had always had Chis but could not now. Her husband clearly had dementia or Alzheimer's. She asked if she could have a picture of him with one of the dogs. So I held Hope up to him and she just kissed his face and kissed his face! He looked so happy. She thanked me profusely and told me that later she could talk with him about it and it would really help him.
Then, the parade route was lined with people along the road (like we were in a marathon or something). TONS of news stations were there and the girls got a ridiculous amount of attention because they were "dressed" alike. They did not notice their harnesses had been "modified" at all. Perhaps they will be on the news or in the paper.
They ended up with 494 dogs so short of the record which was 603 but can you believe that?? So great that they had an entry fee for each dog which went straight to the shelter.
I am going to place a craigslist ad to see about a Chi meet up and see if I can get interest. I am kicking myself for not asking for names or offering my business card even.
The girls have cooled off, got their feet all washed and are passed out. They had a great time! Ruby even walked right up to a red boy her size and kissed him right on the mouth. Like she knew he was like her. I was shocked that she was so friendly!! Several people remarked that their dogs were poorly behaved and they had to leave them home. They complimented our girl's behavior which made me proud and also surprised me because sometimes I think that they are naughty!
Anyway, here are the short rough videos:
