Default Odessa's Ocean Trip

We visit the coast a lot, and Odie is really starting to warm up to being on a boat! The first time we took her there, she hid in her crate most of the time. Now she prances out to the back deck to lay in the sun, like she owns the place.

The last time I took her on a boating adventure, I would kayak her to the shore to do her business, and she was running through streams and loved it!

I've already posted this pic on here, but for new people who don't believe a chihuahua can kayak...

We were looking forward to doing a bit of kayaking this trip, but there was a wind warning, and then non-stop rain, so no boating for us. Anyway, here are some pics of my girl and her ocean adventure. Hopefully these aren't too big.

Sleeping in the backseat. Such a good road trip dog.

Checking out the ferry terminal, and an old ambulance.

Odie met a mini Odie! A six month old, named Diego. They looked EXACTLY the same. Bizarre.

The ferry terminal was infested with chihuahuas!

Waiting for the ferry. Ice cream break! My husband is thrilled with having his photo taken.

Enjoying the sunshine.

Finally on the boat, and the limited time only sun.

Arrrr, she's a salty dog.

Tough life for a little cheewah.

Thanks! I made it at cafepress.com. Long story short: my Dad used to have a million of these really dorky shirts that said "Dad" on them and have all these cartoons of a dad doing things on it. We would all wear them as junk shirts when sanding and painting the boat, etc. They all fell apart and are garbage now, but for a Christmas gift, my husband and I bought t-shirts for ourselves, my Mom and Dad, and couldn't leave Ode out. On the front, they all have an anchor with our "title" under it. Odie's job is to be a salty dog. HAHA nerds!

Thank you. It's true! I'm really glad we started bringing her with us, since she's warmed up to it so much. It's nice to have a dog friendly getaway.

You are too freaking adorable! That first picture of you in the kayak is just
priceless, and Odie so knows what she is doing, lol, she looks confident. Your
hubby is really cute too, I love his hair, haha! Every time you call Odie "Odessa",
it brings back such beautiful memories of Odessa, Ukraine for me, it's a gorgeous
place for vacationing. I spent a small chunk of my childhood there.

What great pictures! She (and you are as well) is too precious!! The little life jacket and shirt were just too much. She is so adventurous and brave!
Thanks for sharing!

wow! that is so cool! I would love to have Miya do something like that. I'm so worried about her over heating so we would have to go when it's late summer maybe? You are so cool!!!

Hehe, thanks! I have to tell my husband that you said that. He's trying to find ways to straighten it. The horror! I love the curls. And guess what. Odie is named after Odessa, Ukraine! I really wanted to call her Odie from the start, but my husband thought it was a boys name. I roped him into it by making it short for Odessa. He's not Ukrainian, but his Dad was adopted by a Ukrainian man, and our last name is Ukrainian. My maiden name is Polish, so I went from a name no one could pronounce to a name no one can spell. Haha. We'll have to visit there one day.

Thank you! Haha, she doesn't mind the shirt once it's on, but she does not like her life jacket. I'm one of those people that would die trying to save my dog though, so it's best for all involved that she wears it! I can't help but laugh at her when she first gets it on... she looks so embarrassed.

We took her at the beginning of August and it was smokin' hot. We were kayaking from the boat though, so we weren't going for a really long time. Also, I may be guilty of being a mean mom and getting her wet a couple of times.
