Default Deer head?

I know nothing about the different classifications for chi's appearances. Just curious what you guys think. Also, although Oscar is on the bigger side (8lbs working on getting him down to the 6.5 he should be) what are your thoughts on his appearance? We believe he is pure chi (have heard that from vets, his rescue etc) but am just interested in what you chi experts think! My guy is between 2-3 they believe..any opinions on that as well.

Obviously it doesn't matter, I adore him and didn't even know of he was full chi when I adopted him. Actually, I wasn't even looking for a specific breed, he just stole my heart.

He looks like a full chi but you never know. When I got Coco from a rescue she was 4 months old. They told me she was a full chihuahua. She's 4 years old now and is definitely too tall to be a full chihuahua. I'm not really sure about the 'deer head' and 'apple head' thing.

He's cute! Deer head for sure. Why do you think he should weigh 6.5lbs?
Chis average 4-6lbs, but not all are. Some tend to be a little bigger. My vet told me that Angel should weigh about 8-8.5lbs. He is currently at 9.2lbs. He could be about half pound lighter, but he is ALWAYS, ALWAYS hungry!

Feel for his ribs and look down at him for his shape. You snood be able to feel his ribs without too much trouble and he should have a nice hour glass shape. For the shape determination, you could probably find a chart online.

He's cute!

When I got him he weighed 9lbs. He was quite overweight and the vet said he needed to lose weight. I got him down to 8 pretty easily, just through exercise and a healthier lifestyle. Recently, the vet said his optimum weight is between 6-7 lbs. he eats acana and I've cut it down it down slightly and have made an effort to make sure he gets more walks I want him to be at his healthiest and not put undue pressure on his knees

Looks all Chihuahua to me, but you can never really know without papers. You can have a DNA test done, but they can be pricey. He does have a deer shaped head. The breed standard for Chis is no more than 6lbs, but there are tons of full Chis that weigh much more and are a healthy weight. It's really only important if you're going to be showing your Chi for them to be 6lbs or less. It doesn't make them not full Chihuahua if they are not under 6lbs, it just means they are not bred to the standard.
