So yesterday we took bail on his first walk. My Best Friend was visiting from London this weekend and we had planned a coastal walk from a Village called Cap D'ail into Monaco. It's about 5k and obviously little Basil didn't walk all of it but he did so well. He trotted along behind us and mainly tried to jump up my legs and chase my skirt
He is absolutely fine with other people, even wanders over to sniff their shoes but is not great with other dogs. Other dogs on a leash seem to be fine, although he ignores them but will cower if he is aproached but there were a pack of 2 Chi's and a Yorkie who were off the leash and I think he got over whelmed and they ran straight over and started barking, there was a lot of snapping and growling. I tried to leave them to it but picked him up in the end as the Packs owner was a little way behind them. Then the owner was really stupid, she came over to talk/apologise and could clearly see that Basil was terrified and she tried to pet him right on top of his head in his blind spot with out letting him sniff her first. He properly snapped at her and got distressed, he has never done anything like that before I am not worried about him with people, this was definitely a snap out of sheer fear but I am at a bit of a loss with other dogs, I do not speak very good French and know no one else with dogs here. Or maybe I am simply over thinking it! Haha. I am sure one of you lovely experts may have some advice
The rest of the walk passed with out incident after I had calmed him down. Anyway onto the good stuff
It is such a gorgeous walk!
He's on a collar at the moment as all his harnesses are too big, It's not ideal and thankfully he doesn't pull at all
He's a happy little chap. Finally a lovely shot of me and my Bestie ... she's on a plane home now
I hope so, He goes out with me everywhere in his bag and has done since we got him 4 weeks ago, It is open and he hangs out of to be nosey! So I guess getting him on the leash and out passing by other dogs can only help. He is 12 weeks today so I know that the opportune window of time is closing! How should dogs greet each other? Despite being a bit of a wimp initially I think Basil has a bit of a dominant streak. Is it Ok for there to be some growling?
How could I not be loving Nice? It's so beautiful and relaxed, I am so impatient for my French to improve, I feel so ignorant! Still my lessons and Basil are helping lots, I can't go 2 minutes with out some one stopping to ask about him!
