Default Road trip :)

Actually, not really anything as exciting Took the dogs for their rabies shot.

They can't see me through the windshield, so they're looking towards the driver's side door, waiting for me to get in. You can just barely see the reflection of my cell phone at the bottom of the picture.

And now we're heading back home.

Such sweet babies! In the second picture, they look like the vet has worn them out!

They get so pumped when we go anywhere! They sit pretty much like you saw in that first shot, ears perked, excited and interested in what's going on. But typically on the return journey, when they're know we're heading back home, they just collapse and typically snooze all the way back.

I take them to a rabies clinic close to my house for their rabies shots. I don't get them done with their other shots because a few years back my vet recommended that the shots be separated so it's not such an onslaught on their little systems. The rabies clinic is held yearly every March in a local school, and it's very well attended, cheaper too. They LOVE seeing all the other dogs, and just want to play though I think some of the bigger dogs just see them as prey. But because we all have to wait in line, the owners are typically very responsible about keeping their dogs in check.

Interestingly too, for the last 3 years the same techs have been there administering the shots. A lot of schools are involved, so I don't know if it's just random luck that I've seen the same techs three years in a row, or if that's just the school that they're assigned to. Anyway, both last year, and then again this year, after I'd done the paperwork and as the dogs were trotting towards the table where the shots are administered, one of the techs said something about "I remember you!" and then there were all talking about what sweet chis, how well behaved, not typical etc., which made me feel good. I've been shocked that they remembered us, but then again I guess if their interaction with my two is so atypical for their experience with chis, then it's not surprising.

Thanks! I keep meaning to get an actual car seat setup for them so they're higher and can look out more. But meanwhile this works. It's just one of their beds, but it fits perfectly on the passenger seat, and for some reason (nothing I've ever taught them) they always stay put in that bed. They don't try and climb into my lap, they don't jump out of it to stand on the driver's side seat if I leave the car, or move anywhere. It's very handy!

Until I rescued him, I'd never seen a white chi either and it was quite a surprise to realize that they existed. Officially the color is called cream. He has a beige colored splotch low down on his back, about the size of a dollar coin, sort of off to the side a bit, with a secondary much smaller splotch next to it. Creams often have that kind of secondary coloration. When I got him at 7 months, his nose and paw pads were black, but as he matured they slowly lightened to the color you can see in the picture. Though I never planned it (when you rescue, things like coat color and length have to be a non-issue) I really enjoy the contrast between Tango's light and Jazz's dark coloring.
