Do a search (at the top of the page) for potty training and you'll get a million different posts on different potty training techniques.

Crate training and potty pads help but the pup is only 12 weeks old... it won't happen overnight.

Blue is almost a year and a half and I'm still working on potty training him. It's strange because I did the crate training and I can leave him in the room that the crate is in all day (with him roaming the room not in the crate) and he won't pee in there. He will poop near the door to the room on the opposite end of where the crate is, but never pee. He does still pee/poop almost all over my house. I don't get it! I'm trying to rehousebreak him now by giving him treats when he goes outside, BUT, now he likes the taste of his poop and has been eating his poop! Totally disgusting! Anyway, I live in Chicago, and I'm thinking I'm just going to have to litter train him otherwise I'll never have him housebroken!

I have a 6 month old Chi who I have been trying really hard to house break for four months. We are finally just about there, thank to a tip from Cooper's mom and getting really excited and throwing a party when he actually goes outside. It has made a huge difference!! He now goes to the door every time he needs to go out. If I don't get there quickly enough, he will head off to find a spot, but it is going MUCH BETTER. THANKS COOPERS MOM!!!!

It takes ALOT of patience just when you think they "get it"
they go into a relapse and you have to start over again but they will eventually learn if you just be consistent and reward him by clapping and petting him when he does good You'll get there Good Luck!

Hi Meggs! How often is your baby going potty? I had the same problem with my Oreo who is now 10 months old. She was 11 weeks when we got her. We learned after about a week and after my mother came to visit that Oreo had a kidney infection poor thing. My mother thought she was going way too much so we took her to the vet. I didn't even realize because Oreo was my first chihuahua baby and I just thought since she was small that it was normal that she had to go so often. She was peeing about every 30 minutes or so. Once we got the infection cleared up it was a lot easier. We have trained Oreo to go on newspaper in a litter box. It's still an ongoing process though. We now have a new chi named Rosie that we are going through the process again. Good luck! :P

Definitely takes a lot of patience. We are currently using puppy pads exclusively due to our living arrangements and the upcoming winter weather. Angel gets a treat everytime she uses the pad. Has worked out pretty well. She had her share of accidents for quite awhile but is completely accident-free now. Just takes time.
