Default Scared new puppy

Hi everyone,

I finally got my chi baby today. Her name is Peanut and she is 9 weeks old.
I know that it's normal for new puppies to be scared when they first come home, and I'm giving her a lot of space. She's been in her bed since we got home, hasn't been eating or drinking or using potty. She gets scared of every little sound, I guess I'm just over-worrying but is there anything I can do to help her settle in better?
I haven't been picking her up or calling her to come because I don't want to scare her too much. I just really hope she'll come cuddle with me soon

Here's a photo:

How cute!!

I think your doing the best thing. Don't force her. That will make her more scared. Try wet food if you haven't already. Try to get her used to you talking quietly to her and she will come around. My Lola is a super nervous chi. I also used to work with Arabian horses who could be super skittish. They came to know and trust me by my constant chatter.

Good luck, I'm sure sh will settle in fine soon.

Congrats on her finally coming home to you! She's beautiful.

Honestly, none of my pups have been scared or hesitant at all when brought home, so I can't speak from experience. But I'd say you're definitely doing the right thing by giving her some space and not forcing her into anything. She hasn't been home for long so there's no reason to worry about her not eating or drinking yet. She just needs to get used to her new surroundings and family and I'm sure she'll come around very quickly - and when she does, you probably won't be able to get her away from you

When I get a new rescue they are often terrified. I find that putting the dog in a crate with the door left open gives a feeling of security. I put a puppy pad very close to the crate and a blanket inside the crate. She just needs time to get used to all the new things. Right now she's overwhelmed. Lola's mommy8's constant chatter is a necessity so she knows who you are.

Aww she is a doll! and I love the name! hehehe! Also too a liter bottle of hot water in her crate with some sort of ticking sound might help as well as those things imitate the momma and may bring her comfort! Good luck with her and before you know it she will be right in your lap! Also too like they said the constant chatter! Ha I talk to Peanut like he is human!

Aww what a cutie!! She probably just needs some time to settle. I agree with the others, it sounds like you're doing the right thing so far. I would just hang around near her without invading her space and speak to her softly. And maybe sit on the floor at a distance from her with some yummy treats. I'm sure she'll be fine soon enough.
