Default Lilo lost a tooth :(

I noticed this morning that Lilo lost a front tooth. I don't know how or when it happened. I regularly check and brush her teeth and only just noticed it so it must have happened today or yesterday.

Her teeth are white and healthy, no bad breath and the vet was very impressed with them at her last check up a few months ago so periodontal disease seems unlikely. The only thing I can think of would be that it happened while chewing something or while playing tug of war, but knowing her, she would have yelped if something hurt her so bad as to lose a tooth? We don't play rough with her either.

Does anyone here have a chi that has lost a tooth randomly? I don't want her to lose any others.

Yes, both Harley and Delilah are missing an incisor, Harley on the bottom and Delilah at the top. Their other incisors are perfectly healthy and sound, and it happened at around 3 years of age.
Chis teeth are not very well rooted into the jaw (common in a lot of small breeds) so it is likely to be genetics rather than anything wrong with the tooth itself

Venus is missing a couple too. She chews everything like crazy though, so I guess I'm not surprised... Her teeth look healthy, and the vet is not concerned, just said to watch how hard of chews we give her from now on.

Tinkerbell BROKE one of her canines in July. I think she must have broken in while chewing on a bone. We had to have the half that was left removed.

Oh I see, it's an incisor that Lilo lost too. Not that it's a good thing, but it's reassuring to know! I was worried there was something wrong with her, maybe a deficiency or something. I got them some supplements yesterday just to make sure as I hadn't given them any for a while.

I know it's silly, but now I'm afraid to give her bones and chews or play tug of war with her too hard in fear that she could lose others...

Aww it's good to know that the vet isn't concerned. My Lilo isn't really a crazy chewer so it surprised me. The only thing she chewed on in the last few days was a dehydrated rabbit ear, but she's eaten those since she was a puppy without problems. I always thought they were safe, but I'm not sure what's too hard anymore!? lol

Ouch! Poor Tinkerbell! That's something I'm worried about now. I feed them pre-made raw with a raw bone here and there, but now I don't know what bones are safe for her to have. :/

I'm never sure what's "too hard" but one of Venus' favorites is antlers, which I know are really hard if they're not split (and even then....) and she also like hooves which are hard. I've been trying to switch her to bully sticks since they get softer but they also have more calories, so I'm at a loss. I just switch it up with whatever I can find right now.

I have an antler for my chis too, but thankfully she's not really interested in it anymore so I think I'll keep that one just for Rocky. I was thinking of switching to bully sticks too, but yeah on top of having more calories they also stink like hell!!

I just found a good solution for now though. I soaked dehydrated rabbit ears in warm water and they softened up really quickly (not even a minute). They still had to chew on it, but it wasn't hard. It didn't last as long as usual, but at least I know it's safe.
