Default peeing issues, UTI or incontinence

I'm fostering a Chi for our shelter.. She's 7-8 yrs old, spayed..She pees a lot and I've watched, she dribbles some.. She's been at the shelter for a month but people there haven't had time to watch to see what her peeing issues are..
She's been passed around a lot 8 people in her 8 years.. due to the housebreaking issue..
Going to get her to the vet for a more thorough exam hopefully tomorrow , Sat or Mon, so we can see if we can get it under control so she can get adopted..I fear if we can't no one will commit to take her. If anyone has suggestions I can tel the vet, let me know..This is the first Chi I've fostered, I've fostered all varieties of breeds..chi are definitely characters..

I've had her for 4 days, she's doing well , starting to relax, totally bonded to me and starting to relax around hubby..She does well with our dogs and no food agression issues..
I put a doggy nappy on her until we can figure it out.. had to do something, I was running out of clean socks..

The poor thing, 8 homes in 8 years? If I was nearby I'd take her in a heartbeat so the poor girl could have a forever home.

I'm sure the vet will be able to give you some suggestions. Tinkerbell, who is 11 now, started having issues about 6 months or so ago. She would pee the bed overnight, but no issues during the day at all. We've put her on estrogen pills, which is a very common treatment, and has fixed the problem perfectly. All we have to do is give her a pill every 5 days and no peeing trouble.

It's very, very common in older female dogs, ESPECIALLY ones who have been spayed.

Poor pup! 8 new families that weren't right for her. I would get get some diapers for her until I could get her vetted. There are some medications for just this sort of problem, one of them being estrogen. I would get her to the vet and see what they suggest. This might be a long period of adjusting meds etc.

I agree it sounds like spay incontinence.
I would check she doesn't have a UTI before using diapers on her.

My beautiful Lady dealt with this. She would "leak" and sometimes "unload" involuntarily while resting. Finally the vet nailed the diagnosis (hormone responsive unrinary incontinence). It results from the spay and how they remove the uterus. Somehow it impacts the pups ability to close on and off the pee stream in the absence of hormones (for lack of better phrasing). Lady is on one tablet of incurin twice a week and it has done wonders.

Trying to get an appointment by Monday.Since she's a shelter foster, the vet's office will schedule other people first and fit shelter dogs in when the can..
I put a diaper on her and I let her out every two hours and so far she hasn't peed in it so not sure what's going on...

I think they passed her around for two reasons, one was being nippy at people, she doesn't make up to strangers quickly..the other was pottying in the house.. I know she tries to hold pee, but sometimes she will excitement pee..
This morning I took her diaper off, it was dry, and reached to pick her up to carry her outside and she peed on the carpet..
I told her it was ok, I know she was nervous because she cowered when she did it.. I took her outside, she peed again and I loved her up.

My male Maltese, would mark everywhere, he was neutered.. I put a belly band on him and let him out every couple of hours and he wouldn't pee in the pad.. Later when he was on lasix, he did become incontinent..

Poor thing, it's so sad that she's been passed around like that and hasn't ever had a proper forever home. Sorry I don't have any advice, but I hope you manage to solve this peeing issue.
