Default Baths, what Products do you use for long-hair?

Hope everyone is enjoying your holidays😊
My parents have loved our chi's for years as if they were their grand-babies and with the addition of Ewa & Sandy they started looking for another dog. I bought them a long-hair 6mth chi for Christmas. She is goergous- reddish/brown hair with hazel/green eyes (will post pic). They named her "Kona".

All my chi's are short hair. I give my chi's baths at least once a week or if we go out to the beach that very day. I use dog cleansing wipes everyday.

I have been having this debate with my mom. She feels she needs to give "Kona" a bath everyday at night before they go to bed. Any suggestions?? What do you use? Is there something anyone uses with their long hair chi? She is firm about giving a dog a bath everyday?? Any products you would recommend for daily use?

I wouldn't recommend daily at all, that could dry out her skin. I Have used Paul Mitchell pet products before, but I'm a wen user personally and I use their pet stuff.

A daily bath? 'Fraid not! If she HAS to use something at bedtime, use a doggie wipe. I don't bathe mine much at all. The two long hairs go to the groomers about every 6-8 weeks and get a bath then.

Daily baths can be ok if the right products are used. Many show dogs are bathed constantly and they have great coats. Maybe suggest she wash with just a conditioner if she wants to wash daily, with a shampoo weekly or after the beach. Still follow with conditioner when shampooing, though.

And make sure the rules of shampooing are followed. The rule I learned from groomers: rinse, rinse, and rinse some more, and when you think you are done rinsing, rinse again!

I believe that washing everyday is excessive and doggie wipes would do just fine. For bath time though I would use a "moisturizing" or "sensitive" shampoo. I always follow up with a condiotioner, since I wash my long coats every 3 weeks. I was never impressed with dog conditioners unless it was a high end brand like Ikaria. Recently I started using Suave All Natural Conditioner and had great results. My sensitive boy, who pulls his fur out if he becomes irritated had no reaction to it. It's been 6 weeks now and I'm finally having a need to wash him.

I hardly ever bathe my dogs. I use unscented hypoallergenic baby wipes when they need it. On the rare occasion when they do get a bath I use human shampoo with conditioner already in it. If one gets dry skin I usually use cocoa butter cream.

Cuddles only gets a bath when she is dirty, which is about every 2-6 weeks. Dogs, long hair or short, definitely do not need a bath every day. Daily bathing will definitely dry out their skin and cause major issues.
