Default Harness Query

Hello all,

I hope you had a good New Years eve and the chis were calm whilst the fireworks went off? Archie wasn't phased which was brilliant!

He is now 3 months old and will soon be able to go out after his second vaccination, and will be going to puppy club. I particularly don't want to carry him around and if I do let him go, I don't have any control over where he goes because he has nothing on him.
He is very good on recall when new people are around. He will come straight back but hasn't socialised with any other animal as of yet.

I am finding it hard trying to find a harness that will fit him in the UK as the XS in Pet stores are XS for normal puppies! Someone did suggest a ferret harness for the time being. Is this sensible? Or can anyone in the UK suggest where I can get a harness that will fit a 3 month old pup.

We use kitten harnesses on ours when they're pups, as they don't fit in any dog harness we can find. We only JUST upgraded Finley from his kitten harness to his actual dog harness, and he's 7 months old. I don't see why a ferret harness couldn't work.

That's an awesome idea! Never thought of kitten harness (to be honest, walking a kitten/cat has never come across my mind in the slightest!)

I used a ferret harness for my puppies. They are a vest like harness and fit the pups just fine. I have several sizes: extra small, small and medium. I also have ferret carriers that my chi's adore.

Hi, as someone already mentioned I also used a kitten harness for my Bella when she was teeny tiny, I got it from Pets at Home and fitted her well.

KC was on a ferret harness until she was able to fit into a puppy one. It was great

Yup. Same here....ferret harness for Jazz when she was a pup. BaxterBoo online has good XS sizing for vest type harnesses too. The ones in the photos in my siggy are from there. They are both XS and my dogs weigh around 3.5 pounds. Because they're vest harnesses with velcro closure you can snug them up a lot too, make them fit better. I love that.

And in case you're wondering about the security of the velcro, before I ever put mine in their velcro harnesses (and they have several each) I wrapped the harnesses around the newel post on my stairwell (because it was small) and attached the leash to it, and then pulled. And yanked. And tugged. And pulled some more...hard!! WAY harder than any amount of force that my dogs could exert against their harnesses. That sucker just would not come loose, which made me feel very secure.
