Default Help adapting to outside

I have had Misty for 2 months now and because of weather haven't been able to get her out (Yesterday had 6" snow YUK)/ She is trained to go inside on puppy pads on a grated pad holder. I have been putting on her harness and leash and letting her wander around the house with it on to get used to it, but she doesn't like it when I hold the leash and try to walk her. OOPS I digress. that would be another question on how to get her used to leash . We had a couple of days that it warmed up a bit and I took her outside. She was terrified. Just shivered, and wouldn't move so I didn't keep her outside long each time. Too scared even to take a treat. I know it's a big world out there for her and wish I could have started earlier. Any suggestions? It's supposed to get warmer end of next week and we will be trying again. Just don't want to do the wrong thing and make it worse. thanks

When I got Archie leash trained I touched the leash about a couple of inches away from the harness, and just pulled very lightly whilst giving him a treat and praising him. If he walked away, I let go. Give him a couple of minutes to calm down and hunt for a toy then try again.
After a week of doing this, and getting longer down the leash I held by the handle and did some recall training then let him wander off to the length of the leash and recall.

Archie was shaking when he first went out, but I just let him be. Every step and sniff he made I praised him so he knew it was okay.

I'd be carrying this pup outside when ever you can. Just sort of ignore her feelings, and act like everything is OK. Hopefully after a couple of weeks you can put her down, and she won't feel so terrified. The other thing is that you could put down whatever you are using for potty, outside. Good luck, and keep up the work.

Default thanks

thanks for all your encouragement. She has been outside every day ( twice a day) in the grass the last 3 days and she seems to be enjoying it. No more shivering. Gets excited when I ask if she wants to go outside. Much better on the leash Mind you she goes where "she" wants to go but she is getting better. However still balks at pavement. A work in progress but she is improving much faster than I thought. Except sometimes when she runs her leg comes out of the harness! Darn. Going to have to look for another one.

There are ferret mesh harnesses at PetCo/Smart that work like a charm. They come in small, medium and larger. I still have one for my 4 pounder!!
