Default Eating poop

My little 14 week old Kylo is taken to eating his poop... what's up with that? Hopefully a phase? #GrossedOutMom

Thanks!

My littlest Chi is almost 2 now and if I don't pick it up right away he will eat it. I thought it was a phase too and after a Check over with my vet she let me know some dogs just eat poop. Could be lack of nutrients they are getting or it could just be ancestral. Dogs evolved as scavengers eating whatever was on the ground and poop may smell bad to us but smell tasty to them. I'd just ask at his next shot appointment in a few weeks what your vet thinks to make sure it's not something health related. I wouldn't worry about it though, it's pretty common and easy to prevent. Just pick up poops right when they happen.

Dogs are dogs!! They eat poop (their own or others--and other species too) because it tastes good to them!!! We think it is gross, they think we're nuts!!! Some dogs do it to 'clean' up and most do it for the above reasons. We have a 12.6 yr old sheltie that does this, and NOTHING we have done stops her. Now we just try to pick up poop before she gets to it. She eats other dogs poop, not her own???? Try not to over react, and just remove his stool as soon as he deposits it, if possible.

Thanks! Yes, he doesn't do it all the time, and yes, it only seems he does it right after he goes... I still think it's gross, especially considering I get kisses! LOL

If you pick it up right after he poops it shouldn't be an issue If he can't get at it then he can't do it lol And make sure he gets his regular dewormings
