Question Dog needs vaccinations

My chi is at least 8 but could be as old as 12 because she was given to me and I have had her for 7 years and she was at least a year old (I suspect older). Anyway, she is due for her rabies shot in September. She has not had any other vaccines since Feb. 2015.
I will not let them give them at the same time if I decide to get more then the rabies because she got very sick when given at the same time.
What I need to know is what does she really need? I don't want to over vaccinate her but it has been awhile since she has had them. Does she need a parvo since she is so old and has had it before. I was told by a vets office that an older dog will have built up immunity to parvo and parvo is only a threat to young dogs.
What other vaccines do you think I should get? I can't afford titering (spelled wrong).
Thanks for the help.

Rabies is the only vaccine that is required by law. The rest are up to you and your vet. Personally, I have not vaccinated by 3 chi's in a couple of years, except of course, rabies. They are inside dogs. I know I could by walking in have the virus's on my shoe. I think they have had enough vaccines to make them immune. JMO. Titering is as expensive as the vaccines, or more. I just can't affort it.

Thank you Susan. I tried to look around the forum before posting this question but not having used it much I was having problems finding what I was looking for and my computer did not help me by going offline every few minutes. Grrrr
I did find some good advice and I think she is good for at least another year, which would make it close to 3 years which seems like what they are advising now. I think I will just have the rabies and the normal well check blood labs done. I could ask for a titer for the distemper, someone said it costs about as much as the vaccine does. I guess I could call the vet office and ask. Anyway, getting lots of good info on the site.
Thanks again.

Oh, do you know if they can give the distemper by itself or do you have to have it with the parvo? Another thing I guess I can call about but different vets may offer different things. Anyone know?

My vet now recommends the core vaccines (distemper, parvo) every 4 years, and some go as far as 5 and are still supported by science. I think there are vaccines that are just distemper or just parvo, but you would probably have to request it ahead of time, as most vets won't have them. I would give it until at least Dec 2018 before giving any more distemper/parvo. Other vaccines she might need are based on where you live and other risk factors. If your vet has never recommended any others, she probably doesn't need them. As Susan said, rabies is usually required by law, which is hard to get around in some states.

Most vets dislike giving a single vaccine, such as just parvo, or just distemper. They have to order a certain volume, and most people just use the 5/1 vaccine. $$$!!!

At the very least, I would not get the rabies vaccination at the same time as the distemper and parvo. I also agree that I don't like the 5 in 1 shot. I would study what Dr. Ronald Shultz and Dr. Jean Dodds has to say about vaccinations, consider you personal situation as far as your dog's contact with other dogs etc., see if your vet could possibly work out some way to make a titer affordable to you then make your decision.
