Default Limping on and off

Last night I saw Sunshine walk a bit weird almost like "favoring a leg" or "lame" not sure what's the correct term.
But this morning I realized she limping on and off and it's her front right leg.
What does limping on and off usually mean??
Buddy Bear use to pick up his leg and not put any weight on it for a couple of hours but then he was completely fine. And it's happened about 3 times but hasn't happened in at least the past year.
I know if I take her to the vet they will probably want an x-ray.
I'm pretty much broke right now and I don't have the money for an x-ray.
I might call the Humane Society for their prices.
I gave her dog aspirin this morning just in case she has any pain.
I'm also wondering if it could possibly be arthritis. She is up there in age.

Default limping?

It might be what they call Luxating Patella-a slipped knee cap. If you look it up in search it will tell you all about it. Hope she feels better.

This is a FRONT leg that Ari says she is limping on. Check her paws for any cracked/split pads, claws that are too long or a nail that is not right. A lot of older pups have arthritis in the shoulder. Did the doggie aspirin help? If it did, that kind of points to arthritis IF you don't find any other problem.

Ari, how is Sunshine? Did the medication help? Hopefully it was just a touch of arthritis. With the weather (at least in the Chicago area) so crazy--well hopefully she is better.

So I didn't notice any difference with the aspirin. But I'll keep giving it to her since it's only half a pill once a day for her weight.
I'm thinking if she goes to the vet they'll want an x-ray. I want to call the Humane Society for their prices. I'm guessing since she's only 6 pounds it's cheaper compared to a larger dog. I've read online between $40 to almost $200
Thanks Koko I'm also hoping she'll feel better <img src="https://www.chihuahua-people.com//images/smilies/icon_smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile" class="inlineimg" />

Edit: I've called around and the cheapest was out normal vet (only 5 minutes from home) $185 for the x-ray.
I'm now wondering if they ask for any other test, like bloodwork. I for sure can't afford both.
I still can't get a hold of the Humane Society. They are farther from my location but if their "significantly" cheaper. I'm gonna have to go with them.
I'm still hoping somehow she'll just stop limping or that we go to the vet and they don't need to perform an x-ray. But I'm sure neither will happen.

On a different note years ago I got to meet Sunhsine's "doggy grandma" and the owner said she was limping with her front paw. I don't know if she ever took the dog to the vet. But she did say she gave the dog baby aspirin for a while. The dog always limped. It might just be a coincidence but the dog has now died of very old age. And I think she said the dog would use it on and off.

Okay so I called the Humane Society and the receptionist I talked to was more helpful then our normal vet.
So their x-ray is $94 Which honestly is significantly different than the $185
He then asked me questions about her and told me that I can bring her in and the vet might not want to do an x-ray. They might want to do a bloodwork test which can run about $200 As their are certain things AZ dogs can catch.
So now here I am should I do the bloodwork test and then a couple of days later pay for an x-ray because the bloodwork might not give an "answer" or should I stick with out normal vet and hope just like they have every single time got the "issue" right and probably pay more
With the Humane Society she'd have to wait as well to get booked in, possibly next Monday or longer.

Ari, if you go with the humane society and get the x-ray and there is no diagnosis, at least then you could go with the blood work. One step at a time. I, personally, would go with the x-ray. If she is 'up there' in age, chances are this is arthritis? If the x-ray is normal, then I don't know. Did the doggie aspirin help?
