Default Should I ADD ANOTHER pup?

Hello Everyone!

Currently, I have an 8 year old man and a 3.5 year old boy. The dynamic between them is tolerable, but they aren't lovey dovey as I had hoped...(they did get into few minor fights before but none so far after moving into a bigger apartment).

My main concern is the lack of vigor in my dogs. I had hoped that with the addition of a new pup, he would keep the old man company and keep him entertained. Unfortunately, this didn't happen and now I am left with 2 couch potatoes. I don't really understand because I can tell they like to play because often the two pups would initiate playtime with me (just not with each other).

My older one is getting to a point where he gets tired easily and can't keep-up with the younger boy. I am scared because as I work, I don't give them the exercise and stimulation they need. This is already visible in my younger dog as the vet said he is now 2lbs over his weight (he is currently 10lbs instead of 8lb).

I feel so guilty that I can't spend as much time with them, and really want that special bonding between dogs that I am now thinking about adding a new addition to the family. I have NEVER had 3 dogs before (and think of this a challenge) and was wondering what everything thought about this. Am I over-thinking this?

Thank you so much for reading!

I've had 3 chi's, but unfortunately none of them really 'played' after they were a year old or so. Don't know why. I have 2 now and they play for a few minutes in the am, and before they go to bed.

Eight chihuahuas here, none of them play with each other after they were 1-2 years old, all of them are couch potatoes. When it's cold, they will tolerate another dog snuggling with them, otherwise it's all growls, like 'you're touching me!' and in separate dog beds. I have one that will play with my hand at night for a little bit and one that likes tug-a-war and would do it with another dog but the ones I have now are not interested. My daughter's chihuahua love playing keep away with her toys, socks, of trash that she finds. And when we had Max, the Lhasa apso here, she did play with him because he loved to play. Also, eight is not old for a chihuahua. They can live to be 17-20 years old. Eight is just getting into middle age.

I wonder why chihuahuas don't usually play after they are grown? Both of mine played with themselves a lot when they were puppies. I would love it if they played now!
