Default carpenter ants

I have carpenter ants in my sunporch. The workmen were here most of the morning tearing off siding and getting to the nest/s. They sprayed ant poison liberally outside into the nest and I sprayed a little inside. They cleaned out the nest---about $2500 worth of damage. Thank goodness the condo association will take care of it.

My question is: should I keep the dogs out of the porch? They don't seem at all interested, and don't go to the area of the porch that I sprayed. The spray dried and is no longer even 'smelly' as it was when I first did it. The cat was on the porch on the sofa, and she hasn't moved, nor seemed upset by it. She is 14 and only interested in getting attention in the evening after the dogs have 'gone to bed'.

Since it is outside, it's dispersed through the air, so that should be fine as long as they don't lick the porch. lol

That's what I thought too, Pam. I have 'ant' poison tiny little boxes that I put out for sweet ants in the spring, but this stuff is much more powerful. I have had workmen working for hours today putting a new beam in, and redoing all the outside they had to tear off. The dogs are bothered by all the banging that's going on. The cat on the other hand cannot even be bothered by the hammering! She demanded to be on the porch, and watched the activities for a while, then fell asleep.

lol the cat demanded to watch the workers.
I'm glad they're taking care of all of it.
I'm sure the dogs would be just fine as well.
As for the ants are they "bigger" than normal ants? I don't think I've ever seen a carpenter ant. Than again maybe I have and just wasn't aware.

Ari, yes these ants are bigger than usual. About an inch long--maybe a little smaller, but not much. Black. They can chew up stuff in record time. If you research them, you find out that they have 'burial' grounds. I once killed about 75 if them on a door at 2:30 AM, and in the morning there we NO dead ants to be found.!! They carried them all off. This was in N.H. years ago.

My Mom hardly believed me, but I researched the ants, and found out that they actually have a 'burial' ground!!! I couldn't believe it either, until I did the research.
