Default marking!!!!!!!

He pees on a lot of things.. especially coats hung on chairs in the kitchen (where he eats) I just cleaned off my shoes today (in kitchen).

Ok i am a little educated on this matter but pry dont practice correct dominence. We let him sleep in the bed with us. Sit on the couch with us. Dont feed at teh same time (try not to anyway). Taking him to obedience classes--sorta helping . he trys to hump my wife (who takes hime to obesidence class--when he does this we push him over on his side and "bite" his neck with fingers using slight preasure (never enough to get a yelp) just enough to cause him to submit and relax.

Any more suggestions or questions that might help. I know the kids don't promote any kind of authority.. they just give affection not much disipline or "pack leader" behavior. (that is a problem--he is confused by I am sure) He tried to hump me once and i pushed him over quickly and very low growl to him and he instantly looked away as I stared him down... this seemed to just make his dominence attempts greater towards my wife.

Funny animal.... but the peeing crap is annoying

***we have not 100% successfuly potty trained him.. he will wake up and sneak out and pee in this one spot (we put a pee-pad down cause we were sick of cleaning it up and washing the carpet--It pry stinks and has soaked the area so we would have to rip the carpet out but no gaurantees that the wood does not stink also). He is geting better though. He lacks daily walks (live in northern iowa--its cold now)

You didn't say how old he is or whether or not he's been neutered.
If he's old enough I would get him neutered ASAP.
You know you need to work on your pack leader behavior and potty issues, I'm sure he'll improve if you do.

I take my girls outside first thing in the morning, because I know they have to go potty. Don't give him the opertunity to go in the house in the morning, take him outside.
Sounds like you know what needs to be done, you just lack motivation. Isn't his behavior enough to get you motivated? Change yourself first and you'll see a big improvement in him
Are your kids old enough to each take a turn taking him out as a certain time?

I just went through a similar thing with my Chili he will be a year old in january.I waited too long to have him neutered & he began marking all over my house & my other dogs! I had him neutered & he now wears a belly band just incase he has any ideas of marking left in his head. He is doing much better & hasnt tried to mark anything since the neuter. AS for the pottytraining have you considered putting him in a crate?

NEUTER NEUTER NEUTER...
the humping and the marking is a dominance issue that should be helped by simply getting him neutered.
depending on his age it might not stop him completly at which point a belly band will reduce the marking while he gets out fo the habit.
Once hes neutered give it about a month then begin his housetraining and obedience from scratch, once neutered and all those hormones arnt running crazy he'll be much more apt to listen to you.

for an obsessive marker, its always in your best interest to keep him confined why you cant watch him 100%, a crate or his own small room (ie the bathroom) when your out, eating, doing anything you cant keep your eyes glued on completly he goes in there. the rest of the time watch him like a hawk, whenever he lifts his leg or looks like hes gonna pee on something he gets a firm no, a squirt from a water gun/bottle or a rattle form a can of coins.
do not punish him AFTER the fact they dont understand, only when you catch him in or about to do the act.

He's about 7 months old nov 18th... I think we need to nueter.. and get a cage. Also we are considering a move to new home (hardwood floors) so we HAVE to learn to get him under control!!! Crating is pry the best idea--we will have to get used to the whinning I guess...to start.

Sometimes it takes a long time for them to be totally housebroke on peeing on everything. Pedro will be 2 years old in December, and it took until he was about 18 months old til he was pretty well trained not to do it on everything. My older chi is 12 years old, and he was 2 years old by the time he was completely housebroke. Now he ALWAYS goes outside to do it. Both of mine are neutered also. What helped with my younger one is to always have the pee pads down. They are chemically scented to draw them to the pads to pee. Good luck!
